Blue rectangle at bottom half of screen??

Looks like a manufactures advertisement, displaying in text all the functions of what the tv can do. When I change the channel or change volume, the blue rectangle will go away momentarily, only to magically POP UP AGAIN, and again, and again. If someone has a solution to this problem, I thank you in advance for the help

Re: blue rectangle at bottom half of screen??

Hold down the Rewind button and the Play button simultaneously for about 7 seconds. The TV should turn off. Then turn the TV back on. Go through the setup procedure. The box should be gone. This worked for me anyway. Good luck.

This is a caption for the hearing impaired, get remote! scroll down to captions, right click 1,2,3,off, now position cursor over the "off " and press enter on your remote, this should get the tv running normally. Some remotes have a separate captions button.

We have had for the past few weeks a large black rectangle appear mid-screen. It happens on a few stations only (6-8-20 etc) and appears to be only a problem mid to late afternoon. Also it never happens...

Sounds like you have your closed captioning turned on. The TV remote may have a CC button on it, if not it will be in the TV menu. Try turning this to OFF. What you are describing may be the TEXT 1, 2, 3, or 4 function of this feature.

Black box in middle of screen

Note that the large black box goes away when pushing buttons on the tv (ex: the black box will disappear to show the volume setting when changing the volume on the tv but it will cover the picture and the menu display of the dtv box).

This is caused by the closed caption setting of the television set NOT the captioning of the converter box. To fix this you must open your television's menu, find the ccd/closed caption option, and turn it off. This is a frustrating problem as when most people are told to shut off the captioning they try to do so at the box.

Normal dtv box captioning will appear as a small text box at the bottom of the screen as you would expect - not as a giant black rectangle that covers most of the screen. If you do want to shut this off too you will find that you can't do it through the usual menu options (the menu will only allow changes to font, color etc.) - there should be a ccd button on the remote that when pushed will scroll through ccd-1, ccd-2,... off.

Large Black rectangle on bottom half of screen

My mother-in-law had this problem on a Quasar for two years before she finally mentioned it. The rectangle is a text box for closed captioning or for a demonstation list of features, but without the text. I restored the factory presets and poof... problem solved.

Look in the manual and find how to restore the factory settings - it will probably be some weird combination of buttons that you would never guess. On her set, which has a built-in VCR, it was simultaneously pressing "play" and "FF" (on the set, not the remote) for five seconds until the set powered down. Yours will probably be something different but equally odd. That should get rid of the black rectangle. Then you go through the initial setup and you're back in business.

Blach rectangle bottom halfpart of screen

Salutations bachiche13,

It sounds like your "Text" feature of your closed captioning may be activated. It sounds like what you would want to do is go in to your television menu and select CC or Closed Captioning to mute or off.

Hope this helps.
