You would not be able to boot into the operating system.

    There can be multiple reasons:

The cable needs to be checked:

    Power Cable
    Data Cable

If they are fine, try to get into BIOS and see if the hard drive is shown there.

If it is not then there seems to be a hardware pblm.

If it gets recognised, then it is something to do with the operating system.

    Thanks

Hard drive not detected on dell laptop

When this happens, i normaly try to read the Hard drive on another Computer. Be it external or internal Hard disk, if it doesnt read on a diffrent working computer, then the Hard drive has a problem. If its that bad you can one of my tricks, put the hard disk in a trasparent, water proofed plastic and put in a freezer for close to 10min. Remove it and connect as quickly as you can. You might get lucky. If all this fails. Then go to microsoft.com and download Error Rescue Disk Commander(ERD), burn it on disk and boot your computer with it, when you succeed, use the Explorer to make backup and use the Administrative Tools to Erase/Wipe the Hard drive. Restart the computer and restore the data

I turn on my Laptop and the fan will spin and the Hard disk light will turn on as well as the power light (obviously) But the Hard drive doesnt spin up and the screen stays blank no lights no nothing i...

Remove all of the ram, turn the laptop on if it does not beep you have a bad motherboard. If it beeps replace the memory and remove the hard drive turn on the laptop and see if it posts. If it posts without the hard drive then the hard drive is bad. Otherwise it is probably still a bad motherboard.

My IBM R32 laptop used to work ok, but now when I swtich it on, the battery light comes on & I can hear the fan working but the computer doesnt beep & load. I've switched it on & off, taken out...

With no beep codes to diagnose from, I'd say everything points to a motherboard issue. But before we go with that as the issue you must ensure its not a memory or hard drive issue.
First you must always make sure its off with the battery out before you touch any components such as memory or hard drives.
Take all the memory out of the laptop (under one of the plastic covers on the bottom) and then try turning it on, if you get beeps now then you know it has faulty memory. If you have more than one stick of memory then try with one then the other and in different slots.
Also try booting without the hard drive in, see what happens then.
Finally if after all this you realise it is a motherboard issue then you'll need specialist help to fix it. Use a company that charges fairly (should be around £55+vat for a simple motherboard issue) and also ensure they operate on a no-fix no-fee and give you 3 months warranty.

PUT IN NEW HARD DRIVE, BUT IT DOESNT RECONIZE NEW HARD DRIVE..

How high of a gigabyte does the motherboard support for hard disk drives? Do you need a newer controller? Do you need to install the driver for the drive or boot from a boot disc to install the drive?

My laptop is stuck on this message"bootmgr is missing" and it won't start up

It is telling you this because it cannot read or find the hard drive or the Boot manager files of the hard drive have been corrupt and will not boot the laptop anymore. Check the interface of where the hard drive connects to the motherboard and if the hard drive is making any noise. There are mulyiple reasons here, starting with corrupt Windows files and ending with bad hard drive.

Hard drive and cd drive not recognized

In this case if your laptop runs occasionally sometimes not. The prom the is the faulty cable which is connected to the HDD and CD drive. Try to replace the connector cable with the other one. Check also the BIOS setting of the HDD and CD drive.

Sony Vaio VGNNR330E laptop wont start up right even after recover

I think you may have bad sectors on the hard drive which is why it loads the software but then when it comes time for the system to read it, it just hangs cause it can't read into the sectors on the hard drive.

Best way to determine this, try another known good working hard drive and if it goes thru all the way and loads then you know the original hard drive is bad.

Tecra M2 doesn't boot is it a processor problem?

given the symptoms, it points to motherboard.. if it was processor, video or ram. it wouldnt boot at all and you'd just get error beeps from your laptop. i'd first try resetting the bios, by removing the bios battery for 30 min, then putting it back in. if that doesnt work try changing it out, usually costs under 8 bucks. if that doesnt work then I would change out the motherboard, if its cost effective.

Acer Aspire 5050 won't boot at all

Yes, it's not the hard drive.

More than likely it's your motherboard.

There's not much you can do besides trying to boot the computer without the battery, and removing and reinstalling the memory.

Hopefully you'll get lucky!
