Question about SanDisk Sansa Clip MP3 Player

Frozen my sansa is frozen in what looks like start up mode.  I have used this player many times before, but it sat for about 2months and when plugged into the computer it charged, but when I turned it on it only says SanDisk.  I can turn it on and off, but can't get to any menus.  Any ideas?

Overcharging can ruin the player permanently - i would call Sandisk and see if you are still in-warranty.

Here are some soft fixes to rule out anything else:
These are the most common methods for recovering Sandisk's Sansa Mp3 Players. I have been almost universally successful in recovering Sansa players using one or a combination of these methods. These methods do not work if you are having synchronization or music format issues - they are for recovering a player that will not power up, freezes, flashes, is not recognized by the computer, and a host of other issues.

Reset the Sansa Player first. On most models, restart is done by holding the power button in for 15 seconds or longer. Check your specific manual to be sure. The manuals are available from the Sansa website if they have been misplaced.
Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website.
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out: http://www.sandisk.com/DriverDownload/driverList.asp
If these fail, then:
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
If you get the problem where MTP Device keeps popping up continuously, uninstall the “MTP Device” by going to Start à Control Panel àSystem à Hardware à Device Manager (you computer may vary slightly, depending on Windows Version).
You may have to restart your computer after each of these methods to get them to work properly. Disconnect your Sansa player BEFORE shutting down your computer.

I was updating my Sansa e250 player while connected to my computer (windows xp), and then when I disconnected it (using the "safely disconnect hardware button), the usual message appeared on the Sansa --...


You will need to get your player into Recover mode.

1) Move "Hold Switch" to "Hold"
2) Press REC switch and power on switch untill the display shows "Recover Mode"
3) Then connect your player to your PC. The player should now show up as a removable drive.
4) Open "Notepad" on your PC and save an empty file named sansa.fmt on that removable drive.
5) Safely remove the drive and move "hold" switch to "No-Hold"
6) The display should say something like "formatting"
7) Then your Sansa will restart in MTP mode.

Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from Sandisk's website (make sure the Sansa is not plugged into the computer yet). Once the Recovery Tool is downloaded, connect the Sansa to the computer while holding in the REC button and continue to hold it even after th player is plugged in. It should go into Recovery Mode in 10-15 seconds or so.

Restart the computer once and try replugging the player again. If it is still a no-go, I would just double-check everything. My Sansa Clip had the same problem after working fine for a couple of months. I reset the player, which solves the freezing issue one time, but doesn't correct it permanently. I did the firmware upgrade and the Sansa Recovery Tool. Then, the computer didn't even recognize that the player was plugged in. So, I used the volume +/recovery method - disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. I even reformatted the player inside of Windows Media Player. Nothing. I was just about to give up. Then, I restarted the computer, and the player started working as normal. I think that the Sansa Recovery tool, in particular, requires a computer restart for it to initiate correctly.

first you have to turn your sansa on and go to the setting and then you have to go to usb mode and ptu it on "mtp"
then plug it back up to your computer and this time when you plug it up the computer will start detecting it and when add song use your windows media player

New sansa e280 frozen!


Press the Menu button for about 20 seconds and it will turn off. Try restarting it.

If that doesn't work, download the firmware from Sandisk's site. Flick the hold switch over, press the record button, and plug it into your computer. That will start recovery mode. Open the firmware and install it.

Stuck Screen


It seems as thought the player itself has actually frozen. I have the same player and it has never done this to me. If you havent allready try leaving it alone in a quiet place for a day or two until it runs out of battery. Then plug it in to your PC to charge and it should be okay. As this has happend to me with other players. If it isnt however, try to resolve the issue by somehow updating the firmware. Try googling "SanDisk Sansa e260 Firmware Upgrade" and see what you can find. If there is something which looks hopeful try it, but if it doesnt work, the perhaps the only option is to return or exchange the player at its place of purchase. P.S Check the USB modes.

Mine froze in play position, but no sound.


Here's what worked for me. Mine is the Sansa M250

1)Plugged the player into the PC and removed all the MP3s

2)Downloaded update program from Sansa link below

3) Install the program

4) Plug the Sansa into your PC.

5) Program automatically starts and allows you to check for software update. Do so and let the program update your player.

Fixed my freeze problem. Player working perfectly now.

throw it against the wall because sandisk is aware of this problem and does nothing about it... they should replace them for free but they don't... race condition in that firmware screws the player up...
