I would suggest that you smash
Philips HTS w/a hammer!
I had better sound from TV alone! Only 2 speakers put out sound from TV. Recordings from DVR can not be heard very well w/all volumes at max. System sucks! You get what you pay for! $2500 LCD TV sounds worse w/Philips HTS than my son's $300 TV! ALL cables hooked up as instucted!!!!

SOURCE: no sound from back surround speakers

I resolved the problem by going in the dec mode (page 49 of manuel) and changing the setting to Pro Logic. That did the trick. Good Luck all.

SOURCE: i can not find the audio out jack on my 47 inch

You might name the model of the TV.

If the TV is a monitor it doesn't have any audio capabilites. What you should do, and owners of monitors must do, is get the best digital or analog audio from the same source the TV would get it - cable/sat/dvd/bd/game.

There is nothing to be gained by washing hi-fi multi-channel audio through a TV's sub-par audio electronics and turning it into grainy analog audio for consumption by higher-fi audio-specific equipment..

I have an AKAI SS-3800 home theatre system which connects to my DVD player by 6 cables to get 5.1 surround sound. Can it be connected to a bluray player to get 5.1 surround sound

Most DVD (and Blu-Ray) players have digital 5.1 audio outputs and some (like yours) also have analog outputs for electronics that lack a digital audio input (*).

I can't get a description (or picture) of the inputs beyond its having two, one 5.1 and one stereo. No mention of digital. Even at the lame akai site.

http://www.akai.com/product_detail.asp?id=3&id2=20&id3=58

* Like the Akai SS-3800 ??

So if the BD has 5.1 analog outs, yes, it will connect the same way as the DVD. Otherwise, you're limited to stereo analog audio (yuk).

I have a 3M STV Digital 6 surround sound system. The receiver is emitting a loud buzz the minute I plug it in. The only way to eliminate the buzz is to unplug the power cord. Any suggestions to remedy this...

A loud hum could be caused by an Earth loop. This is caused by connecting various stereo equipment into different mains power outlets.
To overcome this problem, use a power board and plug all the stereo equipment into this single power board.

I have bouight a samsung home theatre system that comes complete wiht a DVd player - i also have a samsung blu ray player - naturally ithought they would be compatible!! how wrong i was!! the connections...

You have several ways to do this. You can hdmi cables from the two units and plug them into your tv if it supports hdmi and run the audio out portion on the back of the tv and hook that into one of the audion inputs on the surround unit. Or you run audio directly out of the bluray using rca, digital coax, or digital optical cable. Turn the surround reciever to the corresponding input that you choose to use.

No surround sound through tv

May be you have to set the Pro-logic option soundfield, this will matrix a 5.1 surround sound effect, unless of course you are sending a Dolby Digital 5.1 audio signal from your TV broadcast into the Home theatre system, also have to check the TV audio output to send audio output to a Home theatre system in other than 2 channel stereo.

I have no surround sound when watching normal T.V

Hi there, in order to listen to t.v you need to purchase an optical cable and plug this in the optical out of the tv to the optical in on the blue ray then select D.IN.1 on the blue ray and press mode on the remote until it says matrix . This will allow you to listen to the t.v through all speakers. hope this helps. Also remember to take the rubber protectors off the ends of the optical cable, a lot of people forget this :)
