Do you have the original installation CD for your screen? Try to reinstall it.

Restart your computer, and when you get the very first info on the screen, press F8. You should see a menu from Windows. It allows you to boot in a safe mode. Select that mode (with the arrows).

Then, when it is booted, go to the Control Panel and select the Display icon. There, you can make a selection of the Parameters tab that will affect the display settings (click on the Advanced button). After you changed the settings, restart your computer.

Don't worry si86. You have the humility to say that you are learning...That's more than enough. The solution will come soon!

Ok. Go back to the Control Panel and try to see if you find a button for Classical display (or view). You will then find the display icon.

  • Elise Lacoursiere
    Elise Lacoursiere Aug 31, 2008

Okay. Forget about the Control Panel. Close all the Windows that are opened. Then, right-click on the desktop directly (use the right button of your mouse) and select Properties. Select the tab Parameters, and click on the Advanced button. There are the different settings.

    Please, give me more news.

I will now give you a link on the Internet that will help you to find the right for your graphic controller. It is mentioned to verify if Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) is installed. If you don't know how to verify that: you have to go to the Control Panel (again!!!) and go in the Add/Remove program Section. The Windows Vista SP1 should be listed. Otherwise, if not installed, you will have eventually to install it. For now, you can go to the website of the link.

    http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/not...

Hoping that this will help you.

    Elise Lacoursiere Aug 31, 2008

It is sure a good thing to have the Service Pack installed. Microsoft releases Service Packs to correct bugs from new version, in the present case, for Vista. Every Vista users should install it. So, yes you better install the SP1. To find it, go to Microsoft.com and look for Vista SP1 (in the search bar).

After installing SP1, verify if the problem still occurs. Then, you'll know that you have to download the driver.

    Elise Lacoursiere Aug 31, 2008

You remember the display settings (right-click on the desktop), we will go back there, on the Parameters tab, and then on the Advanced button.

You now have the different tabs in that section showing some info to help to find which driver is needed (graphic-card, screen...). Please, tell me what is the info of the card.

We will then find the right driver on Intel website. I'm waiting for your answer.

  • Elise Lacoursiere
    Elise Lacoursiere Aug 31, 2008

Meanwhile, I will give you the Intel page where you will have to download your driver.

    http://support.intel.com/support/index.h...

On the right of this page, it is possible to see
    Top recommended download.

Leave your the pointer of your mouse on
Intel Graphic Media Accelerator Driver for Windows Vista. You will see some info. Maybe your card is included in the list (well, only the last 3 digits of your card number). If so, you can download that specific driver.

    Please, give me some news.

It's ok if you can't find it. Do you see in that display Properties something about Intel?

We're very close from the solution.

  • Elise Lacoursiere
    Elise Lacoursiere Sep 01, 2008

    Good to have you back...

It is Graphic Properties. You might get a window with few tabs. Please, tell me the titles of the tabs.

  • Elise Lacoursiere
    Elise Lacoursiere Sep 01, 2008

Okay, please click on Information and Video overlay. If you see information about the Graphic Controller, I need to know the number. It might start like Intel ....Graphic Controller.

    Thanks

    si86, you're wonderful.

Now, get ready, we will correct your problem.

I give you the link to find a program from Intel that will fix the problem. You will have to download it and then, once it is downloaded, you execute it.

First go to the website of Intel with

    http://www.intel.com/support/

go to the section Top recommended downloads. The first is Intel Graphic Media Accelerator Driver for Windows Vista, click on that one. Then, you have to click on Download (in blue). The file to is called winvista_1511.exe

And to execute it, when it is downloaded, you double-click on it. And follow the steps.

    That will fix your problem.

Restart your computer to see if it corrects the problem of display. I will get back to you for the other problems.

    Elise Lacoursiere Sep 01, 2008

    Is your problem fixed?

  • Elise Lacoursiere
    Elise Lacoursiere Sep 02, 2008

One last thing: when you executed the file downloaded from Intel, I forgot to mention something. You have to give an instruction to the program so the driver needed will be in the right folder. If you could re-execute the program winvista_1511.exe once again, at one step, you have to mention where to put the file. When you are at the step to indicate the path, let me know.

  • Elise Lacoursiere
    Elise Lacoursiere Sep 02, 2008

    Whenever you are ready.

  • Elise Lacoursiere
    Elise Lacoursiere Sep 03, 2008

Hi si86, the problem still occurs because the driver obtained by the execution of winvista_1511.exe is not in the right folder. Vista puts the driver in the folder by default, which is My Documents. So, if we re-execute the program winvista_1511.exe and we mention the folder where the driver should be, it will correct your problem.

Please, let me know when you are available. That should take a few minutes.

Here's one last comment I will add to this request. It comes from Intel support center, to verify if the winvista_1511.exe was well installed. So, thank you for your patience with me.

    ***********************************************
    * 4. VERIFYING INSTALLATION OF THE SOFTWARE
    ***********************************************

    1. Click "Start" then right click on "Computer" button and then click on properties.

    2. Click on "Hardware" Tab, permit the DirectX Builder to run by selecting the "permit" button and select "device manager".

    3. Select "Display adapters". The Intel Graphics Driver should be listed. If not, the driver is not installed correctly.

Hi, when I turn on the Acer Aspire 5920, the acer screen comes on, the bar across the bottom moves, then it goes to a blank dark screen with a blinking cursor. I have tried turning off and turning on and...

Check if your hard rive indicator light is flashing (has disc shape icon or can shape icon next to it). If it is then put in your windows disc and do a startup repair. Make sure it is booting from the disc drive first. if it isnt flashing then you may have a dead hard drive. Try taking the hard drive out and putting it back in.

Are you using a built-in video card? it's a video card problem. It's either the memory alloted for your video card is too small. Another thing is the driver of your video card needs to be updated.

Please do these steps:

Right-click on the Desktop > Properties > Settings tab > Click Advance button at the bottom > Go to Adapter tab. Tell me everything under the Adapter Information.

Thanks!
