Depending on your model, you might need to try and transfer the video via the firewire port. Lots of newer camcorders have a USB and a firewire (IEE1394). Typically, the USB is for photo transfers and the firewire/DV is for video transfers.

Hope this helps.

When I turn monitor on it just says "No signal" and goes off. Help!

Power off the monitor.
Unplug the video cable from the monitor.
Power on the monitor.
You should get some sort of display on the monitor saying "no signal" or something similar as you have already experienced - if so, good.
This means that your monitor should be OK.

Next, power off the monitor again.
Plugin the video cable back into the monitor, make sure you screw it in all the way.
Unplug the video cable from the back of your computer, inspect if for any damage.
Plug the video cable back into the computer, make sure you screw it in all the way.
Power the monitor on.

Any picture?
No? Make sure the computer is turned on and is not in any sleep or hibernation mode.

Still no picture?
Try the monitor with the same cable on another known working computer.

Still no picture (or you don't have another computer)?
Purchase a new video cable or swap video cables between monitors if you have another monitor.

Also make sure that the monitor cable is not crimped and it looks in good working order.

To import pictures and videos from a digital camera
  1. Connect the camera to your computer by using the camera's USB cable.

samshameem_2.jpgConnecting a camera to a computer with a USB cable

  2. Turn on the camera.

  3. In the AutoPlay dialog box that appears, click Import pictures and videos using Windows.

  4. (Optional) To tag the pictures, type a tag name in the Tag these pictures (optional) box.

By default, the folder name includes the date the pictures and videos are imported and the tag name.

  5. Click Import.

A new window opens and shows the imported pictures and videos.

How and what do I need to hook up my laptop to the tv

You have many options but probably the easiest is to use an S-VIDEO cable.

If your laptop has HDMI you could also use that method but the cables do tend to cost a little more (worth it though for quality picture)

If you TV has a VGA connector then that is probably the cheapest and quickest way to get a quality picture.

If your laptop came with an S-video to composite (phono) type adapter you can also use that but the picture quality is not as good.

Your TV has DVI and S-video so one of those would be a good bet. dont cheap out on the cables though !

In my experience many cheap S-video cables are useless when it comes to hooking up computers to a TV

Download videos to my computer

uploading pictures from camera is simple. i suggest you two options. if you have a data cable , connect it with the camera and directly to the computer via the usb port in switched on condition. your camera will be recognized immediately.double click on the camera icon and enter the folders.. from there you can copy the pictures or videos into separate folder in your computer. the second option is if you dont have the data cable then get a memory card reader and insert your memory card in the reader and connect them to the computer and rest of the process is the same. thanks for using fixya! please dont forget to rate my solution.

Cant save pictures or videos to desktop

If you can, the easiest way would be to plug in your camera using a USB cable and transfer pictures.

If your camera came with software or drivers for transferring/ storing picutres to your PC - These will be in the box, if not you can download the necessary drivers from the Internet.
