Norton Advantages & Disadvantages

Advantages & Disadvantages:-

Though Norton anti-virus products and its various versions are one of the best protection software, Norton anti-virus software has some advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages: -

When Symantec redesign Norton for Widows compatibility, Norton becomes one of the best protection software in the market. With its every release Norton introduced new features or upgraded features. Norton release new versions almost every year. Some unique features of Norton anti-virus are Sonar protection, File Insight, Network Insight, Power Eraser tool etc. which provides more reliable protection against viruses and other malicious code. It can run at background to work silently. It will warn you before running or installing malicious programs. It can protect your computer spreading viruses from your Facebook feed, e-mail attachments. Simple user interface will help you to work more easily. Norton provides PC utility tool to tune-up your pc and Backup and Restore tool. You can solve your problems online from tech support, where you can find answers for possible problems, use-one-click-solution-first to solve your problems manually and customer help desk, where you can interact with tech support personnel for your query.

Disadvantages:-

While Norton offers variety of benefits to its users, there are also some drawbacks as well. Prior to the 2009 version of Norton anti-virus, reviews claimed that the software required considerable memory to run, this slowed down the overall performance of the computer. Computers that have an old copy installed might experience this resource issue.

Uninstalling is another drawback of Norton. If you attempt to remove Norton Antivirus, the uninstallation process proves difficult. This is one area where Norton fails to compete with its competitors, according to PC Antivirus Reviews. Reviewers asserted, "Uninstalling Norton is nowhere near as good as uninstalling McAfee, which sets the standard for fast, clean, easy uninstallation for anti-virus software."

New purchased nortan 360 not install (old version march 2008)

It seems that you have an old version of Norton installed in your system. If so, uninstall it properly (tough job since plain uninstalling does not remove all traces of this program). You might check out the free `norton uninstaller' tools available at the link provided below.

By the way, have you purchased a multiple license Norton product? If not, I'd not recommend installing it in more than 1 PC.

Please completley remove the norton security from my computer...trying to run something comcst says you need to do something to rmove it...please do asap ...thank you

Go into Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs. Wait for the list of all programs to load up.

Go down through the list and look for Norton Internet Security. Remove it. It will take a very long time, sometimes 1/2 hour or more depending on speed of computer. Reboot the computer after it has been removed, especially if/when it asks you to reboot after the process.

After rebooting, go back into Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. Look for Symantec or Norton's Live Update, remove that as well. Also remove any other Symantec/Norton Anti-Virus or Internet Security programs as well. Then reboot the computer again.

Your computer should be much, much faster now. So now you need a new Anti-Virus program...

I've found in my experience that Norton and McAfee do more damage to some computers than good, besides the fact that they are severely over-priced. I would NEVER install either Norton (Symantec) or McAfee on anyone's computer. Matter of fact, I just had to remove Norton 2008 from a lady's computer today, an old Dell 2400 because her system was too old and slow to run new Norton.

My suggestions for much better anti-virus would be...

- Kaspersky Anti-Virus (search for it on Google, etc)

- Trend Micro PC-Cillin Anti-Virus (search for it on Google, etc)

- AVG Free Anti-Virus at http://free.grisoft.com, they also have more elaborate versions with more protection for a cost.

I personally use AVG on my computers, and my family does as well. It's very effective and gets out viruses that even Norton cannot remove.

HELP!!! Computer stopped working when anit-virus was installed?????

Assuming you are using windows xp. 1. Boot up into windows safe mode by pressing the "F8" key during boot process. 2. Choose "Safe Mode without networking" on the menu and after entering your desktop a pop-up will appear telling you that you are using windows safe mode, just press "OK" then uninstall Norton Anti-Virus. 3. Shut-down and/or reboot computer. Another alternative would be to boot into safe mode and perform a system restore. If you choose to do this, you still need to uninstall Norton Anti-Virus because a system restore will only fix just system files not programs that were installed. In other words, you will have a partial installation of Norton Anti-Virus in your computer. As to why this happened, could be a compatability issue with the use of Norton and some other program. Good luck.
