Question about Kenmore 62642 / 62644 / 62649 Microwave Oven

Part number for underneath light controller

My "nightlight" does not come on. You can see the display change, microwave beeps when buttons pushed and I think I can even hear a relay click, but no power at bulb sockets. You mentioned a "controller" that you replace for 39.95. I am not able to locate that part. Would you please advise?

Both of my lights burned out so I purchased new lights and installed but still not light! Do I have to purchase a repair kit and if yes, how do I get it?

    Also...are their other options?

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel assembly, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

Details of our service and critical safety information and disassembly information is at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

The display works (clock, mode, etc) I can push

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

While changing nightlight bulb, it twisted off and short circuite

Hi,
In all probability, the short took out the relay on the control board and the control board will need to be replaced.

I hope that helps.

I have Emerson Microwave #mw8999sv which has the Express Cook option- cooking 1 - 6 minutes. How do I cook for 1 minute 30 seconds, etc.? Thank you.

The owner's manual is here. On page 10 we find:

COOKING IN ONE STAGE
1. Press the POWER button; the Microwave and High
Cook indicators will light and “PL 10” will light in the
display.
2. Press the POWER button different times to set the
desired power; the display will show the percentage
you chose. If selecting power level 70%-10%, the
Low Cook indicator will light instead of the High
Cook indicator.
3. Press number keys to set the desired cooking time.
OPERATION(CONTINUED)
4. Press the START/+30SEC. button to start cooking;
the Microwave and one of the Cook indicators will
blink and the display will countdown the remaining
cooking time in minutes and seconds. It will beep
five times when cooking is completed.

Nothing works, displays numbers 1 thru 4.

What you're describing sounds like a corrupted controller, or maybe there is some grease, etc. on the controller, maybe where the keypad plugs into the controller.

Can you post a video demonstrating what happens?

This sounds really odd!

Night Light

Your Control Key Pad is a circuit with each function and button a switch. The pad on your TV Remote, and Telephone is no different. The Key Pad is failing, It will only get worse. Determine if you can replace the Touch (Key) Pad. Not the Control Circuit, just the Touch Pad. Sometimes you can get it seperate. It connects by a Flex Cable to the Control Circuit.

NIGHTLIGHT WON'T WORK BUT SURFACE LIGHT WILL

This is a problem with the control panel assembly, which we repair nationwide for $39.95. This is most often caused by the filaments shorting when the bulb blows, or by not disconnecting the microwave from the power line when removing or installing a bulb.
