If your Dell was built after 6/04, you have a recovery partition. Press Ctrl+F11 on startup to restore the system to the way it was when delivered.

i found this solution elsewhere. basically you want to try and do a factory restore , if this is no help do a google search on "Dell Dimension 5100 factory restore"
"OK try this, when dell screen comes up on keyboard hit CTRL+ F11 twice only then you will see Dell pc restore by Symantec.Hit on restore and hit on i agree and select the option Restore the pc to Dell factory settings and then it will restore the pc "

I need to restore the factory settings for my Dell Dimension 8770 and I do not have the cd. I do have a D: backup, but dont know how to restore from D drive. Can you help me restore to factory settings? ...

Telephone Dell, but first get the unique Dell asset-tag number from the decal on the back of the desktop. With that number, Dell will ship you a set of "System Restore" CD/DVD disks, via overnight courier.
Use those disks to reinstall Windows.

Some of my software got deleted. what can i do to get it back? I tried to reset my computer back to factory settings but it won't let me.

system restore only compiles the software that was issued with this computer when purchased. If any was added you will need the program disc to reinstall

Back to manufacturing settings as if brand new

When you purchased the DELL, you should have received a set of "System Restore" CD-ROMs. If so, insert the first disk, and restart your computer, telling it to boot from the CD-ROM, rather than booting from your disk-drive, and choose to reinstall Windows, with the additional Dell add-on software.

If you don't have those CDs, find the unique Dell ID (usually a white sticker on the back of the desktop, or the bottom of a laptop), and telephone Dell, and order a replacement set of those CDs, and then reinstall, as above.

Trying to do a factory restall of Dell demnension 2400

typically you don't need to press ctrl at all -- usually f11 does the trick -- or going into accessories and system tools and looking for factory restore or something similar, the program has different names depending on the manufacturer. System Restore will only bring it back to a previous date...

Dimension 4600 won't reset to factory settings

These model dells came with a recovery cd rather than a partition. You will need to call dell and have them send you a recovery cd and then use that disc to restore your computer to factory defaults.

Restore factory settings

If after hit control F11 nothing happen, probably you don't have a restore partition. Check that first.

If not you need to reformat your drive by reinstalling windows (you DO have that cd) and then reinstall the additional software that came with your 8200 (all that stuff is downloadable from dell website)
