M/Boards support all makes of hard drive
Are you sure you connected it correctly
The wide ribbon cable that goes in the rear of hard drive should
1) Be connected to M/board in the No 1 connector with the stripe on cable to the No 1 pin
2) the stripe on cable should go next to the 4 pin power plug on hard drive
Also ensure your BIOS is set to Auto detect of driives

What you have is a SATA hard drive and they require a different connector

Both of the above sites contain pictures of them
You Hopefully have the connectors on your M/Board If not you will have to exchange your hard drive to for one with IDE setup

or do a search on the net for an online store in your area if you have ensure you are not ripped off

1GB PC400 RAM does not work with motherboard A7S266-VM/U2

Hello the home page is here:

If any drivers or manual needed select first your windows.
Click on global for download.
Unzip the file and you need a pdf reader (adobe) to read the content.

Here are some specification about you mainboard:

2 x DDR DIMM Sockets
Max.2GB unbuffered PC2100/PC1600 non-ECC SDRAM Memory
2 x SDR DIMM Sockets
Max.2GB unbuffered PC133/PC100 non-ECC SDRAM Memory

(Note: DDR ram and SD ram memory can not be used on A7S266-VM/U2 simultaneously)

This means you can`t use SD RAM together with DDR ram.

The bios could have a setting for this because of the use of 2 different ram types.

Try downloading the manual.

Good luck

Hello, My my motherborad is ASUS p5rd1-vm;RAM1GB and hard disk is PATA 80 GB but the HDD is having some kind of problem and the windows have shown a warning about it several times. Now i want to buy a...

Yes, it's compatible with the motherboard, no, it's not compatible with the XP install disk because it doesn't have SATA support. And since Asus doesn't provides it special driver needed (one that must be put on a floppy) it means that you simply cannot install XP on this disk.
All you can do is to obtain another PATA hdd what ever its size and install XP in it. Then put the new SATA disk in and use it to store all the installed programs and all your files on it. As a bonus you won't lose them if the new PATA disk fails or XP gets corrupted.
Or install Vista or 7 instead of XP, the have support for SATA disks
