Question about Sony KDF-E55A20 55 in. LCD Television

Spots on screen

I have circular dark spots on my screen in various places that can only be seen when it's a bright scene. They are about the size of a quarter and are more like a shadow than a dark spot. I've cleaned the screen, but to no avail. Any ideas? Thanks so much!

Youlikely have dust inside the optical block on the LCD panels. Cleaning the panels is a tricky job and just shooting compressed air into the block will only redistribute the dust. A qualified tech can disassemle the block and clean the panels

White spots tv screen

Bright and dark spots on screen might be due to the fault of the screen itself. In some cases, it will be reparable. Contact any service technician, because, if it is a repairable fault, the panel might need to disassemble.

Spots all over screen

We will presume you have a DLP set that uses a lamp of some sort(no brand or model indicated here).

spots or dead pixels are usually a damaged optical light engine--there are ones where more and more appear.

A faint possible reason is dust is inside the optical light engine--seen it a few times but the spots are usually golf ball in size----high pressure air applied to the vents in the engine with set on in a dark room usually clears that up.

My Philips tv model50PL9200D/37 has hot spots in the picture. It doesn't matter what picture setting or adjustment it is on.Dark scenes show purple in some places.Light scenes show bright spots especially...

If your TV looks 3D, warped, or distorted it likely has a convergenge problem.
If however it just looks dull, washed out, redish, greenish, or blueish or if it looks like objects on the screen have halos the fluid in the lens has soured.
You can search google for parts or you can get the parts with repair instructions from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com

Dark spots on screen on DLP when screen is white

What size are the spots?
If they are 1 pixel in size you have stuck DLP mirrors.
If they are larger not symmetrical then it's most likely dust blobs in the optics near the focal point (on the DLP chip glass window)

TV issue

There are many causes for spots on top of an LCD rear projection tv, you are probably in the first two cases, both require part replacements and repair job.

If the spots are faint blue, green or pink shadows, then it can be a problem with the anti polarization panel placed on top of the LCD.

Similar spots (colored shadows) may be caused by a problem with the light engine, in that case the fix will be expensive.

If the spots are bright lights, like an aura, that is a problem with the color wheel.

Problems on the light tunnel can cause static gray shadows.

If the spots are static dark stains than that is lcd liquid, the LCD panel must be replaced.

I GET WHITE SPOTS ON MY LCD SCREEN

this is a touchy subject for sony. basically sony has increased the brightness levels for the backlights to have better color tones in thier lcd's. well the downfall of this is the white spots you are experiencing. this is not a defect, you will never get them to go away, the only thing you can do is to turn the backlight and brightness down to reduce the white spots. if you contact sony, there is a software upgrade that will help reduce this issue...

What are defect pixels?

Ocassionally images from digital cameras will have "defect" pixels. These pixels may appear in the final photograph as bright white, green or red spots that are out of place when compared to the rest of the image. Sometimes people call these spots "hot" or "dead" pixels. Usually these pixels, and other types of "digital noise" appear in the darker or underexposed parts of images; additionally, images taken at longer exposure times are much more likely to have this issue. Many Nikon cameras have a "noise reduction" or "NR" process that fixes these problem areas. When NR is activated and image exposure times drop below 1/4 of a second the NR automatically processes the images as they are saved. This Noise Reduction feature is sometimes called "Night Portrait" or "Night Landscape" Scene Modes. If these spots are seen on images photographed under normal conditions (bright light with exposure times shorter than 1/4 second) then the camera may need to be sent in to a Nikon Service Center for repair. Notice the green defect pixel near the center of this image.
