I have circular dark spots on my screen in various places that can only be seen when it's a bright scene. They are about the size of a quarter and are more like a shadow than a dark spot. I've cleaned the screen, but to no avail. Any ideas? Thanks so much!

Re: Spots on screen
Youlikely have dust inside the optical block on the LCD panels. Cleaning the panels is a tricky job and just shooting compressed air into the block will only redistribute the dust. A qualified tech can disassemle the block and clean the panels

Faults & possible causes to LCD & Plasma screen are given with illustrations. You can get an idea about the fault to an extent. Faults to all LCD & Plasma screen are similar, irrespective of its brand and screen size.
Usually that is actually dust that has gotten in behind the lcd screen. The dust congregates on top of the tv and eventually falls in through the air grids. Im not to sure how to rectify this without opening the tv up not something I would recommend and can break your warranty.
Bright and dark spots on screen might be due to the fault of the screen itself. In some cases, it will be reparable. Contact any service technician, because, if it is a repairable fault, the panel might need to disassemble.
I hate to say it but what this is is contamination under the actual LCD glass. This propblem starts during the manufacturing process and can rear its ugly head over time or after running at high temperatures for long periods of time. It can also appear as dark 'tiger' stripes. There is nothing that can be done to repair this. If you have an extended warranty, the mfg should exchange the panel for you. If your warranty is up, take photos and contact Toshiba online and try to get them to cover this regardless. This is a mfg defect.
Mine had the horizontal lines you are talking about. 1st check a test picture. Click on Menu, then Settings, then go to Product Support. From there click System Diagnosis and go to bottom and click on sample picture. If you see the same problem there, then you may want to research the possibility of installing a t-con board. You may want to try calling Sony 1st and have them walk you through the basic service repair items. I was very lucky and installed a new t-con board I purchased with all the other boards on Ebay. Good luck with solving your problem! Ron
