My Acer Aspire 5732Z's Crystal Eye webcam wont work online or on Skype, Messenger, etc. When I was cleaning out my laptop, (deleting unwanted programs) I may have deleted something that had to do with the webcam. I need to talk to my cousins from Greece and the webcam will not work!! So what should I do??

You need to reinstall your Web cam's drivers.
If you have the drivers on a cd, reinstall them,
if you dont have them, visit Acer's website, www.acer.com and go to the "Drivers and Support" page, enter your laptop model and the operating system you are using, then download the web cam drivers (Acer Crystal Eye) and install.
That should solve your problem.

    Actually I have the same aspire 5732z and I never got the camera working! I've downloaded installed&unnistalled the dozens of drivers versions that Acer provides here:http://support.acer.com/us/en/product/de...
    And NONE of it WORKS!
    In the Device Manager there is only a mention to a device named "USB Camera" that I believe it was there from the beginning and it always seems active! It leads me to think that the guys who made the driver for this laptop did a big screw up... I have been searching for a solution for years now, and have been using other cameras connected by usb that work fine... But it's just stupid that I have to buy a camera for a laptop that already has one!!!! Please, DRIVERS GEEKS lead us to a REAL WORKING SOLUTION!

You need to redownload the drivers for your crystal eye web cam. Go to this link: http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers
When you get there, select "Notebook"...then select "Aspire". Then scroll down and select Aspire 4710 Then where you see "Operating System", select your operating system (ex: XP, Vista, or Windows 7). It will then show all the drivers for your operating system...scroll down until you see the camera driver software and then download and reinstall it. Hopefully this will help...good luck.

If there are no error status codes under device manager, then either you have some OS corruption and need to reinstall the OS or the webcam is defective. I would be more inclined to say the latter.
Skype is a good test, since you've obviously done that its most likely bad.
You could test the os theory by downloading hiren boot cd, burn the image to disc and boot into the mini xp live part, install skype and driver under it and test the web cam.
If its under warrenty just have them replace the web cam, if not i could replace it at a reasonable price. Comment back for additional assistance.

The best solution is to reinstall the drivers of your webcam , you can do this by using the motherboard cd which comes along with your laptop.

If the drivers are reinstalled , hopefully the web scam would work.

How to use the built-in webcam? The integrated webcam can be used by third-party applications such as Yahoo Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger, Skype etc. Use the webcam button in the messenger software and it will automatically turn on and start the webcam.
Select models of Acer netbooks also ship with a program "Acer Crystal Eye Webcam". This program will enable the webcam immediately after startup and can be used to take pictures and record video.

For our Linux-based netbook, you can find the Instant Messenger program in the "Connect" section on the desktop . Additional software like Skype, are available through our special website for the Aspire One netbook. Within the "Fun" section of your Linux desktop, you will find a program called "Webcam" which can be used to test the built-in webcam.


Look for "Acer Crystal Eye Webcam" entry in the programs menu, then right click on the program icon and click on "Send to the desktop as a shortcut".

if ur drivers are updated from www.acer.com then u should look into settings of yahoo messenger and select and test ur camera but these settings will only work when u are online try if it helps check ur camera if it works somewhere else

I'm not sure if your problem is fixed yet or not, but I had this same problem when I updated to windows live 2009. But whenever I deleted it and got an older version of live it works just fine. So, I think it's msn and not the webcam..but i'm not positive about that. Mine just seemed to work after I got an older version.
