Question about Refrigerators

Marvel 6bar-bd gets too cold - explodes soda can

My beverage cooler is getting too cold and it seems the thermostat does not sense the temp correctly and does not shut off the compressor. Does this unit have a replaceable sensor ?

Also, the interior light remains on - the switch tests ok

Thanks
Bill

    i have the same problem

  • Anonymous Sep 16, 2008

I have had my fridge for 3 years. After 1 year, this started happening, and eventually stopped getting things cold altogether. A repairman came and replaced the thermostate. He said "see you in a year, the thermostats on these are bad". Well, I should feel lucky, it took 2 years but it's out again. This is ridiculous considering the cost of this fridge. I have a small $70 fridge in my garage, under terrible conditions, that's worked perfectly for over 10 years. I'm calling Marvel today, but I doubt they'll support me.

I also have the same problem. Our Marvel 6BAR runs continuously until the beverages freeze. A technician came out and replaced the thermistor under warranty. It was a simple repair that anyone could do. This solved the problem for about another 18 months, but it has returned. I will now search for this part and do the repair myself. It only takes a few minutes to do.

I have a marvel wine cooler that frosts up and also tends to have temperture issues. Bottles on second shelf freeze. Temp adjustments to less cold make it too warm.

you have a restriction in the cooling side sounds like the filter line dryer is clogged up and will need to be replaced. Also the system will have to be recharged by a professional check to see if its in warranty.

The Marvel 68AR Serial 06090-5018 does not regulate the temputure. When it is turned on it gets as cold as it can and freezes everything.

It sounds as if the thermsitor (temperature dependent resistor used to detect temperature) has failed. You can order a replacement direct from the factory 800-223-3900. PN 42244531 - It used to come with instructions. If you need further assistance, drop me a line. - Subdriver

PS There is one other cause that can lead to similar symptoms: if the unit has a freon leak is is low on charge, it will develope heavy frost on the left wing of the evaporator plate and none on the right and will run almost continously when turned on. This is due to the control senses the plate temperature and not the air temperature. If the frost pattern covers all (or most) of the evaporator plate when running, then my original diagnosis stands.

Marvel 6BAR light does not illuminate. The bulb

More than likely your socket has a bad connection (probably the ground). There are two switches that can send the socket power...the door activaed switch and the manual override (ON/OFF button in the toe-kick). If you turn on the manual switch and the light is steady, then the door switch is bad. Otherwise I would trace out the connections on all the switches and on the back of the socket.

Everything inside the refrig is freezing or getting frozen. Soda can are exploding.

Either the unit is low on freon (as seen by heavy frost on the left of the evaporator and none on the right) or the thermsitor is toast and lying to the controller (most common cause). Call the factory at 800-223-3900 and order a replacement...PN 42244531 It comes with replacement instructions.

Refrigerator operates properly for a few days then stops working

When you said it stopped working, do you mean it is not working at all? or is it not cold enough? If not working at all, that will be thermostat, when you change the thermostat, did you adjust the small switches to match you unit and make sure wires are connected properly, If not, it would work properly. If not cold enough, check and make sure the condenser fan motor and compressor are running, if both are running but not cooling then you have sealed system problem.

I have Marvel 6bar beverage refrigerator that suddenly stopped cooling- any suggestions on how to fix- I am trying to avoid paying a couple hundred dollars for repair thank you for your time

If light work but not running at all, then change the temp control (thermostat). If compressor and condenser fan motor are running but not cooling, then you have sealed system problem

Marvel 6BAR stopped cooling

The dip switches define the temp range. You have it set to the warmest. Try moving the next dip switch to move the range cooler.
