A fundamental explanation of a capacitor is in order.. All capacitors ( regardless of the number of terminals.. ) have a Positive and Negative post. So if you know which wire is Pos and which is Negative..then you can atach accordingly.. unfortunately, your pictures did not come thru as pictures so I have no idea what you've been confronted with.. If you want to e mail me direct and include your pictures.. I might be better able to assist you.. I can be contacted at iamgelinru@yahoo.com

Your call.. if my explanation above doesn't get you going..

How to adjust the humidity level

Hello Friend, that's a great question!

In order to better assist you I would need your model number please. The serial tag, which lists your model number, is typically located behind the bucket on your dehumidifier. Also, what is the size of your room/basement? Where is the dehumidifier located? What setting is your dehumidifier set on? With this material I can provide you the correct information. Thank you! - Z

What is A5 on our frididare dehumidifier?

Hello Friend, this is Z. I am happy to assist you!

If you are receiving an error code AS on your Frigidaire dehumidifier, it typically means that your dehumidifier is experiencing a sensor failure. Because it is a smaller appliance, repairs are often more costly than the actual appliance replacement. Is your appliance still in warranty? If so, you might want to reach out directly to the manufacturer to determine the coverage on your dehumidifier and the procedures to any potential remedy in that regard. Best of luck!

I need a start capacitor for this model.

Look dont spend time looking for a start capacitor for a dehumidifier and just invest in a new dehumidifier they are pretty cheap. It may sound harsh buy its true its a better investment seriously.

Compressor will not kick on

About the only thing you can do without a service tech looking at the unit is to check the capacitor. If it is bulging it has blown and you'll need a new one. If you are not comfortable working with electricity I'd take it to someone because, even unplugged, you could get harmed or worse just from handling the capacitor.
If the problem is not the capacitor and the unit is getting power the chances are good the compressor itself has blown and you'll probably be better off buying a new unit rather than bearing the cost of a comrpessor replacement. That choice is, of course, up to you.
Good luck.

Fan does not operate in my 54501 Kenmore dehumidifier; therefore, unit gets very hot.

Shut the power off to the unit, spin the fan blade to see if it spins freely. If it doesn't spin freely, (there appears to be a little drag when you spin it),the bearings are bad, if it does spin freely, then try moving the motor shaft from side to side if there’s any play in the shaft side to side then the bearings are worn and motor needs replaced. Then, check the capacitor, if it’s bulging even slightly, the capacitor is bad and needs replaced. Most of the time people replace the capacitor if motor seems ok. If capacitor is ok, turn power on to see if the motor is getting the proper voltage, if it is and not trying to run, then the windings are probably open, the motor's bad and needs replaced.

She was a little noisy with the fan sounding like it was rubbing, today i found no working at all but it was real hot. I opened the back and the fan spins freely and there is a canister that looks like a...

The capacitor should not be hot, so the motor could be drawing high amps do to a worn bearing which could cause the rubbing sound.
With the power off try to move the motor shaft from side to side, it shouldn't move any that way, if it does the bearings are worn and you need to replace the motor and the capacitor. The other cause for the hot capacitor would be a bad capacitor.
If the motor is bad you should also replace the capacitor at the same time.
