Question about Lexmark Printers & Copiers

I bought a new lexmark printer just 5 days ago and have used it only a few times. this morning when I tried to use it, the carriage slings back and forth instead of stopping in the middle. Also, the paper will not pull through.

Remove both cartridges from the printer.
Move the red lock switch (at the back of the printer) from the down position to the up position, and then move it back to the down position.
Unplug the printer and turn it onto its left side the carriage.
Then return the printer to the upright position and reapply the power supply.
Attempt this fix twice and then try to print once more.

If this does not work have a look at www.lexmark .com under support , you may need to upgrade the firmware .

Hope this may help;

One thing you can try if Ginko's solution doesn't work for you is look for some teflon oil that you get at auto stores call tri flow. Spray it on the metal bar that goes accross the carriage and see if it makes a difference.

To solve this issue what u can try is remove the ink cartridges from the printer. Unplug/replugg the power cable. Clean the copper contacts of the carts using a dry paper towell. Snap the cart back to the printer and install the cart as the new cart. Print the alignment page and if still have the same issue it might be the issue with the encoder strip and it maybe better to have it replace..

Hope that helps.........

First unplug power cord for five minutes.

Plug it back, if you still have the problem try connecting back pulling out and putting back cartridges, this if the carriage stops in the middle.
Try to press the on button to see if ink carriage stay in position.

If you still get the error, then there is a problem either with the control board or with the encoding strip.
As the printer is new it is not worth attempting repair, get a replacement.
If printer is second hand sometimes you fix this cleaning the encoder strip.

To replace the encoder strip you need to take apart your printer, and there is a serious risk to damage it.
Easy operation is cleaning the encoder strip, that is the plastic strip behind the carriage, running aside the traction belt.
You clean it with cotton and printer cleaning solution.
If the printer is new there is one year factory guaranty cover.

Put brand new lexmark 28 cartridge just 4 days ago. Maybe used 10 times. Computer says ink is low and won't print anymore. However, can still make copies.

It could be just a slight communication failure between your cartridges and the printer. Try to re-seat the cartridges by removing and re-inserting them into the cartridge carrier.
I hope this helps.

Try to rebrick your printer. Pull out power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds. This will give enough time for the printer to reset itself.

You may also try to plug the printer to a different known working power outlet in the wall to identify if it's a faulty power outlet issue.

Hi there maximum time we found it is a the head problem. The print head is what the cartridges sit in inside of the printer. For resolve the problem please follow these.
Open the printer and wait for the carriage to slide over. Some how if its not come then Unplug the printer & Manually slide the carriage. Now Remove the ink cartridges from the print head & Use wet warm cotton swab or use alcohol to thoroughly clean the print head. Repeat this until there is no ink residue coming off on the cotton swab. After finished it make the head dry then fix it back. Now Try to print something now If that does not work then follow the next step.
Remove the printer data cable & restart the PC & printer. Then fit back the data cable & turn on the printer. Hope that's start working , if no luck then Uninstall the printer driver & restart the PC & Printer both again. Now install the driver of the printer and connect it with PC ,Turn on printer & go for a test print from the printer preference. Thanks & waiting for your reply.

Lexmark x4270- Can't find manual. Shows error 1203. How can I correct this. Thanks

Hi

Error 1203 occurs due to smearing of ink on the carriage bottom where the cartridge head touches the carriage bottom. Please turn off your printer and unplug it.
Clean the bottom of carriage with a damp cloth and clean any dried ink. Make sure that you use the printer after 5-10 mins or until the carriage area dries up completely.

If the 1203 message is still present on the operator panel, you need to insert one cartridge at a time to determine which cartridge is producing the failure.

Now try and check whether you are still getting an error. I hope that you are using orignal Lexmark ink. If not then please use genuine inks only.

Changed color cartridge and getting error

I had the same problem with my X8300 printer. As the printer was less than a year old Lexmark sent me a new printer. I will keep this printer until it to goes wrong and then buy another brand. Lexmark - cheap and nasty, I am afraid.

You can use the Lexmark z42 drivers that come with Vista to make it print but I doubt you could get it to scan. New MFP are a dime a dozen these days so it may be time to upgrade.
