Question about Acer Aspire 5500 5570-2609 Laptop
The region code at this time will not allow us to play dvds how do i sort this?
If the drive is completely unusable, then this option cannot do anything but possibly work wonders.....
If you can identify the actual model of the drive in the system (try looking in Device Manager), maybe you can try to overwrite the firmware with an earlier version. That might enable you to reset the DVD region and then you can reload the new firmware update.
To find an earlier firmware version, you will need to look in enough places until you find a revision that is earlier than your current version.

I am affraid you cannot. You are only allowed to change the region code four or five times depending on the make of the player. Once you have made the last change it is set into what is known as the firmware of the player itself and cannot be undone.
I have known people do what is known as a firmware updtae and even that doesn't reset it.
I am from the UK and live in the Caribbean and for this very reason I have two DVD players for my Toshiba laptop which I change out depending on where I am.
You could try buying an external DVD player that works via USB, the only draw back with these is the USB connection sometimes isn't quite fast enough and you sometimes get a little stuttering during the film.
If you do decide to buy an external remember you will only be allowed to change the region of that four or five times as well.
