Question about Palm Vx Handheld

Vx to Outlook 2002 failed - no connection Established

My hotsync has been working fine through Pocket Mirror and literally one evening it worked and the next morning it didn't. My IT staff claims they didn't change anything on my PC, however I have no explaination. The following is the message I get: "The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again." I've uninstalled and re-installed Palm Desktop and Chapura Pocket Mirror and I've checked the connectivity of the cradle. The connectivity is fine, but the PDA still won't connect to either the Palm Desktop software or Outlook. Any suggestions?

Re: Vx to Outlook 2002 failed - no connection...

Hi, on ur palm tap on home , u would see hotsync icon tap on that , on the hotsync page , u would see ur name on top or just welcome , make sure u see direct serial on the same page , tap on the top left corner where it says hotsync in words , in the drop down , tap on lan sync prefs , make sure local hotsync is darker in shade. on the pc make sure u see the hotsync manager at the bottom right corner , if not , click on start , click on all programs , choose palm desktop , inside that u would see hotsync manager , left double click on that , if it doesnt appear at the bottom right corner , try 4times , then if it still persists , restart the pc and try again. Once u see the hotsync manager at the bottom right corner , right click on that , left click on setup , left click on local , choose a different com port , reduce the speed to 9600 , click on ok restart ur pc and try hotsyncin , if it doesnt work try the previous step again and do not forget to restart ur pc , and then perform a hs , it will work .... Regards

I believe you will have no problems. HotSync talks to the Outlook client rather than the server.

Original sync worked all others failed with 650 and Outlook 2003

I was ready to give up completely. Uninstalled, reinstalled, nothing worked. Here is what I did to resolve sync errors: 1. Perform a hard reset on the Palm 2. Go to the Palmone folder on your hard drive (C:\Program Files|PalmOne. Look for the Backup folder. Rename this folder Backup Old. 3. Connect the Treo to your computer. 4. Right click the Hotsync icon in the taskbar and click Custom. Change the four Outlook conduits (Calendar, Contacts,Tasks,Memos) to Desktop overwrites Handheld. 5. Run a Hotsync with the Treo. It should sync without errors. If you need to install additional applications you can add them now. This worked for me. I hope it helps with your errors.

Try to connect it not through the hub, but standalone ... could be a power issue from the hub ...

Cannot hoysync with outlook 2003

After installing, reinstalling, deleting, hard resets, hitting head against wall... I tried installing the Pocket Mirror conduit as a last ditch effort. An error message popped up saying it could not find the mapi32.dll file. I looked at another PC, located that file in the windows32 directory, copied it to my PC, and I was able to hotsync with Outlook. To test this, I uninstalled the Pocket Mirror and Palm desktop SW, then deleted the mapi32.dll. Installed the Palm 4.1.4 sw, outlook 101 update, plus the conduit update, had same error messages. Added the mapi32.dll to the windows32 directory - was able to successfully sync with Outlook!

Hot sync error 8001 with MS outlook

Answers on Chapura PocketMirror errors, Chapura maintains a really good database of fixes for errors with their PocketMirror Outlook PIM conduits. Copied from the site: First, make sure you are running the latest version of PocketMirror version 3.1.7. To check which version you are currently running, please see Chapura FAQ PM089. If you are still receiving the same error after installing the latest version of PocketMirror then continue with the following steps. If Option 1 does not resolve the issue, then move onto Option 2 and so on: Option 1: Run the Outlook 2000/2002/2003 "Detect and Repair" utility (You will need the Office/Outlook CD-ROM). 1. In Outlook click "Help/Detect and Repair". 2. After the repair is complete, reboot your computer and synchronize your handheld. Option 2: If you are running Windows XP and this error is occurring, please perform the steps in Chapura FAQ PM198. Option 3: If this OLE error occurs ONLY when synchronizing with Outlook closed, then please see Chapura FAQ PM053 "Outlook Backup Add-in causes HotSync failure when Outlook is closed." Option 4: If you have a laptop computer and are running Windows 2000/Outlook 2000, this OLE error may be caused if your laptop goes into sleep/hibernate mode when Outlook is open. To fix this problem reboot your computer and try to synchronize your handheld again. In the future make sure Outlook is closed when your computer "hibernates". Option 5: Uninstall and reinstall 3rd party conduits such as the TakeNote, DayNotez, PocketQuicken, QuickWord, Quicksheet, etc. To check for these conduits: 1. Click on the HotSync Manager icon (circular red/blue arrows on the bottom right of your PC screen, see image.) Note: The HotSync Manager icon may be hidden on Windows XP, please click the round white arrow button (see image) to unhide the icon. HotSync Manager Icon Example 2. Click on "Custom". If you see any of the above mentioned program conduits listed in the "Custom" screen ABOVE the PocketMirror conduits (Outlook Calendar, Outlook Contacts, Outlook Tasks & Outlook Notes) then uninstall any of these 3rd party programs. To do this go to "Start/Settings/Control Panel" or "Start/Control Panel" and double-click on Add/Remove programs. Then reinstall these programs from the original source media. Option 6: If you are using Outlook 98/2000, please follow the steps in Chapura FAQ PM108 "How do I change Outlook from "Internet Only" to "Corporate/Workgroup" Mode?"

Update to MS Outlook 2003 causes Hotsync error

delete local user name in desperation, after removing the user name from the handheld and still not getting any results or ANY syncs, I launched Chapura Settings from My Desktop, deleted my user name, re-created my same user name, same spelling, and then everything worked first time every time. I have the latest Pocket Mirror PMStdUpdate3171.exe loaded on top of what came on the installation CD. to sum up, I deleted the user name from both handheld and PC and recreated it only on the PC, then sync'd with outlook 2003 without even a reboot. good luck

Sync fails with "too many open databases"

This is what I did to fix that error:

Hard-reset your Palm to erase all data (that usually involves pushing the small "reset" button on the back, then pressing the "power on" button until the device boots, and then pressing "up" to confirm the hard-reset)

After that, sync your palm. The sync software will ask if you want to use your existing profile or create a new one. Create a new one. Then the program will offer to sync your Outlook profile with your Palm. Click on "ok", and a message asking you to accept to sync your Outlook data with more than one profile will pop-up. Click on OK, again... and that's it!
