Replacement Fan for KDS-R50XBR1

Hi,
I noticed yo posted a message about have fan problems on your Sony KDS0R50XBR1 and how you just used a screw driver to move the fan and it started up.  Well I am having the same issue.  That work around fixed the problem but the fan needs to be replaced and I noticed in a post that you had found one for $25.00 but were not sure if it was the right one.  I am also looking for to a replacement to the big fan you can see on the back of the tv and I was wondering if you ever found the right replacement fan and if so where you found it.  I need to order one also.
Thanks for any help you  can give. -Richard

Thanks.  Yeah I have already checked the back and taken the fan out once just to see how difficult it would be to replace.  I was happy to find it was two screws and power connection.  Thanks for the link to the fan.  That is the cheapest price I have seen.

I will be ordering that tonight.

    Thanks a lot.

Well that stinks.  Let me know if you have any luck "FIXRUPPR" in getting that part.  I would like to know why they stopped selling that part directly?

That link now says:

At this time, this part is only available through Sears Home Service. If you would like to have this part installed by Sears Home Service, please call 1-800-4-MY-HOME or click here to schedule an appointment for the repair.

Guess they need to try and make money on our plight huh? I will call them and demand they sell me one!

Thanks for the link!

Ok, I think I have the answer for the BIG FAN failure. I recently did a similar fix on the spindle of an xbox 360 and it is identicle. Ok, this is an EXTREMELY EASY FIX...

Open the back of the tv, locate the large fan (on the lower left on the back of the set.) unscrew the screen and remove the fan.

Once the fan is removed, you will see the side with the model number and the other side is totally open.

    On the open side, pull...

The fan will come off, into your hand, it is only held by magnets...

You will notice a spindle on the fan and the other side has the magnets and the hole where the spindle came from (this is the fan motor).

Clean both the spindle and the hole (motor) with a q-tip. The hole is smaller than the q-tip, but do the best you can to remove the old lubricant.

Get a bit of WD40 and lubricate the spindle and spray a touch in the hole.

Put them together, reconnect your fan, test it on startup and thank me...lol...

HOPE THIS HELPS!!!! IT WORKS, TRUST ME...

This worked great -when I took out the fan everything was extremely dusty.I cleaned the spindle and the hole ,using wd-40 on a paper towel and used a toothpick to clean the hole.I then lubricated it with some quality fishing reel oil.Worked great ,fired right up.I did order a replacement fan to keep on hand -$25 delivered from CWC

Hi
Glad I could help. The screwdriver trick worked but it was really inconvenient to keep pulling the TV out to get behind it. I eventually found the part at Sears Parts Direct. This link should take you there. http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/displayPartDetailAction.action?partNumber=883586011&productGroupId=0057&supplierId=528&brandId=x&documentId=50027432&keySuffixId=NA&modelNumber=x&keyId=051&pageId=00002&productTypeId=x&searchModelNumber=KDS-R50XBR1&backToLink=Return%20to%20Part%20List

The part number is 883586011. It is nothing more than a computer case fan but it has a special connection for power. I used express shipping but it still took them almost 3 weeks to get me the part. The site claims they have them in stock but it said that when I ordered to. Installing the fan was very easy and it worked like a charm. My local authorized SONY repair place wanted $99 to come out, $125 per hour and like $50 for the fan. Even with expedited shipping the fan costed under $40 and about 10 minutes of my time to put it in. I think I chose the wrong career. Good luck!

Another quick fix besides using a screwdriver to actually take the fan out is to simply use a hair dryer to get the fan moving again. This normally unsticks it and will get you another few days of having a working television until your new replacement fan comes in the mail.

The error code of 4 blinks indicate a fan problem.the fan is slowing or internitantly stoping. the fan is stallling. or the fans not getting power. Always rember anything that moves will eventally stop. this fan is on all the time. also there more than one fan. Listen closely to hear the fan. The fan is not difficult or exspensive repair.

Hi,
4 times blinking light indicates problem with exhaust fan in KDS-R50XBR1 and possible causes are as follows:
-Fan 1-4 power is not supplied. (ASU board)
-Fan connector is not attached securely.
-Fan caught wires or harnesses.
Please check exhaust fan in tv, it is located at lower right of tv looking at rear of tv.
Thanks.

KDS-R50XBR1 50 in. HDTV Television

I think that is fan error you can remove back and make sure they are turning the lamp fan usually fails most. You can clean fans replug connections. You can try turning fan with a pencil to jump start it. If it starts to run it may only be temporary and fan would need replacement.

Sony kds-r50xbr1 turns itself off and then green light blinks 52

I too have a Sony KDS-R60XBR1 tv and the issue that you are experiencing is due to one of your fans in the rear of the tv is not working.  The tv automatically shuts off in protective mode.  Make sure the POWER/STANDBY light is blinking and not the lamp light below it.  Is the power/standby blinking 4 times in red? If, yes then its a fan that needs to be replaced.  If its the lamp light blinking then you need to replace the lamp.  The lamp is easy to replace by ordering the lamp either from Sony for $250 or find it cheaper for approx. $150 from other DLP sources and replace youself by following your manual.  I hope this helps you.

KDS-R50XBR1 5 red blinks

If you are positive that the fan is still running and that it isn't an over heating issue, I would venture to say you need a new dlp lamp. Your model uses a Sony XL 5100 dlp lamp. You can grab one over at DLPLamps.com.

MY KDS-R50XBR1 WILL NOT TURN ON.

This happened to ours and it was a fan failure. TV would not turn on since the fan was not working. Once the fan was replaced, the problem was solved. When you try to turn the set on, the red lights blink a code, which will tell a tech what's wrong. Good luck.
