During restore windows i found error "Windows could not complete the installation. To install windows this computer, restart the installation.

Reboot windows without any CD in drive and tap F8 key before windows screen appears. Select safe mode from the menu that appears and elect to do a system restore.
If this doesn't work you could try changing the boot order in the bios ensuring that your hard drive is first boot device. should get into bios when starting PC usually F2 or del key. remember to save changes in bios normally F10

System recovery on a gateway 6214 laptop

Try This:
    • 1 Back-up any important files to an external hard drive, if at all possible, before proceeding.
    • 2 Place the Windows Install CD into the computer's optical drive. Restart the computer with the disc inside. As the computer starts up, it will prompt you to press any key to boot into the Windows Install CD, press any key to do so
    • 3
Press "Enter" to bypass the "Welcome to Setup" screen. Press "F8" to accept the Windows License Agreement. Windows Setup will ask if you'd like to install any available updates to the operating system. If you currently have a (wired) Internet connection, download the updates. If you do not, you can install the updates after the restore completes.
    • 4 Select the "Custom" installation route. Select the internal hard drive as the installation destination. Press "D" to delete any and all data on the hard drive. Confirm this action by pressing "L". Press "C" to create a new partition to install Windows. You will need to use the "NTFS" file system, as this is the Windows default.
    • 5 Continue the installation by following any on-screen instructions. You will be asked for the Product Key, your region/time zone and to create a name for the computer. The whole re-installation, reformat and restore process will take a little over an hour. Once complete, the computer will reboot to apply the finishing touches. Remove the Windows Install CD at this point to avoid booting back into the disc. The Gateway laptop will launch into a freshly restored Windows installation.

Looks most likely that your Moms' hard disk has some bad sector on the boot drive. The best you can do is to reinstall the laptop. You may have to hand over the laptop to someone who is good with computer and has the OS disk to this this for you.
