Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

3 Answers

Have previously logged a problem on Fixya re my HP Deskjet L7680. The problem has evolved in recent months. In short have done a PC rebuild, upgraded to XP Pro and the Software to my above printer has fully loaded and works. Something it has never fully done. So, my query is as follows; I loaded up my CD copy software, Nero & Roxio 9 to then find that the Printer was not recognised. Roxio is my preference BUT I have always had issues with the software before, nothing major but the odd .DLL problem. So, I uninstalled Roxio and what do you know, the Printer was recognised and works fine again. Yippee !! Finally today, I deleted the residual Roxio files from the PC, via Windows Explorer, just to tidy up BUT only to find that the Printer then did not work. I pulled the files from my deleted Bin ...... the Printer works fine again. So, do these residual Roxio files (in a Program file titled 'Roxio') share files with other functions on the PC i.e. the HP Printer. I will be more than happy to provide more details BUT does this issue ring any bell with anyone. Help would be appreciated Moorman

I'm apprehensive to reinstall the HP software only because it has been so difficult in the past to get the printer to work. (it works fine on my Work's laptop)
Perhaps its a case of 'if it works, then don't fix it'
HOWEVER, I would like to try and understand whether there are any files that Roxio is using that would also be required by the Printer i.e. once I removed the remaining Roxio files then this would in effect cause the problem
    Hope you follow

This is the very first I have ever heard of this problem. I had Roxio CD Creator before and was able to print literally thousands of CD sleeves from it. My suggestion is to try the combination on another computer. Dont worry you have the power of system restore to help you. Try these and then if they dont work

Click start then run then type in msconfig
Launch system restore.
Restore to a point where you do not have a problem.

Before you do this though make sure that there is a restore point. Go through the abovementioned steps to go to system restore then create a restore point.

I have used SysRes numerous times in troubleshooting software conflicts and it has proved quite useful since you can do just about anything then have it back to normal in a few mins.

When you reinstall the system, as you did now, you MUST reinstall printer drivers and software .
Did you reinstall printer software from CD.
If you lost the CD we can give you the download.

Installing and uninstalling printer software does not normally affects other software.
The conflict that you have in your case between Roxio and HP software is not normal.
The conflict was probably caused by the use that system does of shared files.
Removing Roxio you deleted all shared files and that probably is the reason why printer is not recognised now.

Reinstall HP software, if Roxio is not installed it should not give any problem.

Let us know if you need to reinstall Roxio, if you get more printer problems, or if ithis can fix your problem.

Maybe you can delete the files from roxio and re-install the printer's drivers with the CD.
Its worth a try.

I'm looking for my hp deskjet 3550 printer to work with my win 7 (64bit) OS. Can't seem to find them. pliz help

HP at their website,, I registered with a user name and password years ago, has recently added a diagnostic app which you download to your PC. It accurately identifies your equipment, and leads you to a variety of tools which diagnose your issues and either lists the files (which they have) of drivers or whatever you might need, or will automatically download and install the files for you.

Also, the last three times I have had an HP related problem with little input from third party websites or products, their agents spent all the time I needed doing in person what their auto apps would have done had I understood or known they were available at the time.

I am getting white streaks in my printouts

It's probably like my Epson...the heads are eithr dirty or should have a computer diagnostic program on CD for your printer if you bought it new...if not, then you can get it from HP or possibly their webpage. The program should include an easy-to-follow alignment procedure done by a USB connection from your comp to your printer, or do the normal head cleading procedure at a service center.

First, try running the installation as Administrator. Right click on the executable and select Run as Administrator. If that doesn't work, go to that registry entry and make sure that System and Administrators have Full Permissions.
