My color inks are out of ink but still in the printer...i just replaced the black ink. when i try to print, it will not allow me and says to replace the color inks first. i followed the instructions to...

The Lexmark Impact S305 printer requires all the cartridges to have ink in them to continue printing - even if you're printing using black ink only. To print true black, you actually use some of the color ink.
Note: Leaving the color cartridge empty or dry isn't good for the printer. It can lead to poor print quality if you want to print color in the future.

The printer won't print. It says replace the color ink cartridge. All I want to do is print black and white.

You can only use the black ink cartridge without the color ink. But no need to replace them in your printer.
When you print just choose black and white for the printed text must be black not colored. But if you still received such notification...just try to replace the color ink cartridge to continue printing
Note: As per my experience. printer with exclusive black ink alone will damage the printer easily due to unbalance printing of ink

Both of my ink cartridges are shown full, but only black ink prints. How can i fix this issue?

May be you have enabled Black & White printing.
You can open the printer settings and check this.
If its not possible, select 'Printers and Faxes' from start menu, right-click your printer and select 'Properties'.
Click 'Printing Preferences' and, if the Black & White' setting is selected, select 'Color'.
Click 'OK'.
Click the 'Advanced' tab and click 'Printing Defaults' and here also select 'Color'.
Click 'OK' and again click 'OK' to close the property window.
Now try printing a color document.
If you succeed, consider voting my solution.

Lexmark 3600-4600 stops at 34% when trying to print a test page. Color ink is low, but I only want black in any event.

If your color ink is already empty or not substantial for printing, then you must replace it with a new cartridge. The Lexmark printer will continue to print when there's substantial ink in the cartridges.
If you prefer to print in black and white as your default print setting, please follow the steps below: (make sure your black and color cartridges ink levels are good)

For Windows OS:

1. Go to Control Panel.

2. Open Printers and Faxes.

3. Right-click on Lexmark 3600-4600 Series print object and click on Properties.

4. In the Lexmark 3600-4600 Series Properties window, go to Advanced tab. Click on Printing Defaults.

5. In the Lexmark 3600-4600 Series Printing Preferences window, under Ink Use, select Print using black ink only. Click OK.

6. Click OK button in the Lexmark 3600-4600 Series Properties window to save the changes.

Your printer will print in black and white draft mode the next time you send a print job to the printer.

For Mac OS:

1. With the file (you wish to print) open, go to Print. A window will pop up.

2. Select the Lexmark printer.

3. Expand the arrow pointing down beside printer name if you're not able to see other options for printing. Look for Quality and Media.

4. Under Paper tab, select Print in Black and White.

5. Save this as your default print setting. Click Presets option and choose Save as. You can personalize the name for this default print setting (e.g. Black and White Draft or My Setting).

Select this Preset name every time you print your files/documents.

I have a pixma 1500 and I need to print black and white prints. I am using edible paper and edible ink. Instead of black and white I am getting pinkish gray instead of gray. I was told before that I...

Apparently, when grayscale printing is selected, some color ink is still used which is why you are getting a pinkish gray color instead of just gray. Here are instructions for solely using the black ink tank.

Print using pigment black ink only (Windows)
Instructions to print using only the pigment black ink tank only. Occasionally you may need to print using black ink only. Using grayscale alone does not provide this option and the color inks will still be used. By following this procedure you may print using only the pigment black ink tank.

Note: Some color ink will still be used for print head maintenance.

Note: Image quality may be sacrificed when printing photographs.

Open the Properties / Preferences window for the printer.

For Windows 7
Click 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and 'Devices and Printers .'
Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Printing Preferences...' from the menu that appears.

For Windows Vista
Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, 'Control Panel', 'Hardware and Sound', and then click on 'Printers'. Note: If you are in 'Classic' view, Click 'Printers' directly from the 'Control Panel'.
Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Printing Preferences...' from the menu that appears.

For Windows XP Home Edition
Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, 'Control Panel,' 'Printers and Other Hardware,' and 'Printers and Faxes.'
Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Printing Preferences...' from the menu that appears.

For Windows XP Professional Edition
Click 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and 'Printers and Faxes.'
Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Printing Preferences...' from the menu that appears.

For Windows 2000/ Me/98 (if applicable)
Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and 'Settings,' then 'Printers.'
Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Properties' from the menu that appears.

Click on the Main tab.

Select 'Plain Paper' as the Media Type. If any other paper type is selected, color ink will be used to create black.

I rwplaced the black ink cartridge a week ago. Now the printer says the colored ink carftridge is emty aand it will not let me print. I only want to print black and white and not able to get to a store...

The only way to solve the problem is by replacing the color cartridge.
If you only want to print black and white get a black and white printer.
Sorry, but that's the cold hard facts.

Black and white prints are not black

Sorry, steve, that you are experiencing this problem.

According to canon.com's website regarding the i9900 InkJet Photo Printer:

Why color ink may be used when printing in black and white Even when printing in black and white, color ink is used for the following reasons:
  1. Automatic cleaning of the print head.

To prevent the print head nozzles from clogging, the print head is automatically cleaned periodically. At that time, a small amount of each color ink is consumed.

Therefore, although printing in black and white is performed, color ink is also consumed.

  2. Color inks may be used to create black.

When printing in grayscale or on photo paper or when duplex printing, although printing appears in black and white, the color black may be created using the three (cyan, magenta, and yellow) color inks. Printers without a pigment black tank / cartridge will print black / grayscale will create a composite black using color ink even on plain paper.

Therefore, although printing in black and white is performed, color ink may be consumed.
  3. In order to keep the heavy black ink from smearing on the page or in the printer, color ink is used when duplex printing to help create black text.

    ---
I might suggest taking out the color ink cartridges leaving only black there, but some printers don't take kindly to this. So, you may have to further experiment with magenta, cyan, and yellow to make it at least seem b&w to your best eye's judgment.

Good luck on this.
