Question about Sony VAIO VGN-N130G/W Notebook

Password i forget my bios password

I have a Sony VAIO PCG-741N laptop, whose BIOS password, which I don't have, won't let me boot up at all.

As soon a power comes on, the Sony logo appears, then the password bar comes on, and I haven't been able to find a pwd that it will accept.

Removing the BIOS battery doesn't work, nor does shorting out any pins I have been able to locate.

Any ideas about the actual pwd?

Interestingly, I haven't been able to find this model number at any of Sony's websites. They claim the number is in error, even though I am getting it from the label on the bottom of the case.

Bios password

There are several web sites pertaining to be able to get you into your laptop/PC if you forget your password.
Personally, I find it hard to believe that a person can forget a password as important as that and in my experience most forgotten passwords were not forgotten at all but people aquiring the equipment without the password however, try this link:

Bios password reset

from the Toshiba support site

The BIOS and Supervisor passwords cannot be removed or changed unless you know the existing password(s). If you forget your BIOS or Supervisor password, you will have to have the password removed by a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider. Although the prompts for these two passwords have the same appearance, the passwords are set and removed differently. If both are set, the Supervisor password takes precedence.

I assume that the notebook will have a BIOS battery similar to a standard PC. If you are happy to disassembe it you may be able to reset the BIOS by removing the battery and/or locating the bios reset jumper

Another alternative is to If this doesn't work or you dont want to disassemble the PC, you can try to build the Toshiba Parallell loopback.

A lot of Toshiba computers remove the password when you boot it up with the loopback connected

It can be made out of a 25pin male connectors (db25). Connect these pins: 1-5-10, 2-11, 3-17, 4-12, 6-16, 7-13, 8-14, 9-15, 18-25
