My laptop cannot play any sound... and I don't know what something wrong, but I think is my sound device have something wrong... can help me? My sound, video and game controllers have Audio Codecs, Conexant H-D- SmartAudio 221, Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Devices, Media Control Devices and Video Codec. What are these devices doing? Can tell me?

You are correct, there is no "voice generator" within the Tascam US-144. It can simply transmit the very primitive note-on note-off type data to a Sound Module or keyboard (like a Roldan SoundCanvas), and then that would generate the actual waveforms.
A SoundCanvas would suit your needs well, as you could run the midi out to this voice generator, and then run the stereo output of that back through the Tascam and into the computer for recording.
could problem be in motherboard config? i.e. if using motherboard sound hardware turn on in config, if using sound card, make sure motherboard sound hardware is off in configuration. it sounds simple, but after almost 15 years of building comps, i still get it wrong sometimes.sometimes
