Question about Pioneer DV-383S DVD Player

3 Answers

Output and viewing on widescreen

I have my DV-383S hooked up to the Component Video of my Phillips Widescreen HD ready TV. Whenever I try to watch a a pre-recorded DVD I get the bars on top and bottom even though the Player is set for this. When I try to change the TV's resolution I find that I am locked and can only be in Widescreen even though there are many settings normally ie. 16x9 14x9 superzoom and 4x3. I have checked the DVDs as well and find that this happens on both 2.35: and 1.85:1.

This problem occurs with Pre-recorded DVDs only. Again the problem is why when I hook up as a compomemt does this stop me from changing the forat on the TV.

HI there it sounds like your tv is the problem maybe. The format of the pre recorded dvd May be in a different region code. Or the DVD player settings my let you change them. I have has this happen with my phillips HD with just normal DVDs. So It is possible that the tv and the DVD player are the problem than.
Try the to the menu in the dvd player (without the dvd in the DRIVE) and access the setings from there. IT should let you change the fomat in there also.

Thank You I sure Hope this helps

Generally most dvd's ar formated in 2 ways either wide screen or standard. usually the options on the tv can compansate for each format however certain dvd's if they are copied are are burned from a computer don't have the same binary code as regular dvd's one question? does this problem occur only with this one dvd or is it others as well?

Hey,

Try another way of connecting the dvd player to the tv, How about Svideo, can you try that and see how it goes? - I checked the dvd player has svideo connector, dont know about your tv.

Thanks,
Ekse

Component should be fine thought, What is the model of your TV?

  • Ekse Aug 30, 2008

Check the video output settings in your DVD player. You can change the setting there. Let me know how it goes with that.

    Thanks,

Hi.I cant see any scores on the tv because it is in 4:3 wide mode but I cant get to it to change it because it is greyed out. How do I change this. Thanks

If you're using an external cable box or the like, you'll need to tell it to output in 16:9 or 16:10 (widescreen). This should be found in the menus somewhere on your cable box. Probably under settings (surprise surprise). Once you've done that, with any luck you're TV should be able to adapt to the new widescreen video signal it's receiving.

Hope this helpes

The aspect ratio on the HD channels are full screen - which is correct. However all other channels have the incorrect aspect ratio. (reduced size) A solution please???

Many times HD channels will come in more clear, but with a smaller picture or widescreen view. There should be a button on your remote called 'wide' or 'zoom' and it will let you adjust the size on the fly. If you adjust the view while watching an HD channel, and you switch to a standard channel, you will have to change the ratio back. No sound on the hd setting on my lcd phillips hd tv

look in the owners manual about installing devices or components--- sounds like you have something hooked up wrong that is not allowing the video and sound to work--- if that doesnt work--- try using a combination device and hooking the two items to it--then run that device's wires to the television

Screen resolution

From the Console Settings screen in the System area of the Xbox Dashboard, you can configure the video output of your Xbox 360 console.

Change your display output settings from this screen. Display settings include screen resolution and screen dimension (or aspect ratio, either standard or widescreen).

In some cases you can select an "Optimal Resolution" button, which appears only when Xbox supports the native resolution of the TV or monitor and automatically applies the best setting but that might not work with your tv.

If you are using VGA you must choose from among the following output resolutions: 640 x 480, 848 x 480, 1204 x 720, 1280 x 720, 1280 x 768, 1280 x 1024, 1360 x 768, and 1920 x 1080.  Much like a PC you would want to select a lower resolution (640X480).  That will make your fonts larger.

Screen Format: The default setting is Normal (a standard 4:3 aspect ratio); select Widescreen to change the output aspect ratio to 16:9 if you have a widescreen TV or monitor.  You should select normal and not widescreen for a standard tv.

Hope this helps,

Bob

Widescreen?

If the programs you are watching are in standard definition they are meant to viewed in 4x3 and the best you can do is stretch them. If they are in HD you need to use the component video inputs or HDMI, then the TV will see you are watching HD and display it in its natural format 16x9. Also some SAT recievers and Cable boxes have thier own size/ratio settings
