You can scan text I am assuming? If so that sounds like a memory problem. Depending on the model, it can be either the printer memory, or, more and more printers use the computers memory, you may need to clean up your computers memory to have enough working memory.
I would assume the latter, I really do not like the new printer/scanners that do not have their own memory. This is just a recent thing. And this problem is popping up everywhere.
So do a disk cleanup on your computer and see if that helps.

Does it scan documents ?

No, the Canon Pixma iP3000 is only a printer. It's not a multi-function (or all-in-one) copier/scanner/printer. See here to get the specifications for the printer. Canon's Pixma printers with MG in the model number are all-in-one photo printers.

I hope this helps.

Wen i try to scan my photoes an error message pops up...... SnanGear error code 2,140,2. It says printer is in use or an error has occured. Check status. Scanner driver will be closed

Stop your printer running while you are scanning photos.
It defines error because your printer and scanner running simultaneously.
Eject your printer while scanning.

Will not scan to computer

Hi,
The all in one solution software you used in XP doen't work with Vista.

But you can still scan and copy by using Windows Photo Gallery.

1. Click on files tab at the top in Window Photo Gallery.
2. Click on import from camera or scanner.
3. Highlight your scanner icon (ie Canon MP600) then click import.
4. New scan window will popup, now you can preview or scan using this basic looking Vista utility.

Hope that helps.

But you can still scan and copy by using Windows Photo Gallery.

1. Click on files tab at the top in Window Photo Gallery.

Then just save it as a GIF or a JPEG and send it as an attachment.
