If you are electronically inclined, replace the three 1000uf 16v
electrolytic capacitors in the power supply board located above the
power switch. They are likely bulging out at the top and failed. They
are the three in a row at the top - center of the board, located
between the two black heat sinks. Make sure you get caps rated for 105c
degrees! I recommend replacing them with 1000uf 25v caps. 35v caps will
work but might be a tight fit as they are larger diameter.
Should cost you about $8 for the parts shipped. You can get them from partsexpress or digikey or any good local electronics store. Your local radio shack may have them but they won'y be 105c and thus may not last long.
Not handy, ask around, there is usually some electronic tweaker guy around that will install them for a few bucks.
This has solved the turns on / then off problem every time in the 3 I've done.

Is there no factory setting on that unit sir,in that case the bad dics error is need to repair or fix some a technician.there are 3 different type or deffective parts to replace it.first type the MODULE of the dvd player ,is need to re-heat the parts of the module by using a hot-air or soldering iron, second loose connector or cable between the module and lens, and third look the lens if lights up while loading the dics which means the lens is good,if theres no lights up or lazer, the lens are deffective.

I have the exact same problem with same symptoms. It was purchased from Target during their Black Friday sale in December, 2006. In 2007 I had the mainboard replaced under in home warranty to correct the static electricity pop that many people experienced. Then in early 2009 the digital tuner not working problem started. At first I could power off the set completely and upon repowering up it would work again for a while, but for the last few months nothing would get it working again, and yes I tried the "Bright Room" suggested elsewhere. I purchased a DVD recorder with a builtin NTSC/ATSC/Qam tuner (Panasonic DmR-EZ28) for $230 and hooked it up via the Composite jacks (HDMI would work also) and all now works, although the channel up/down function is quite slow. I was under the impression that the 537H came with a 3yr warranty (1 yr in home, 2 additional years parts) but when I contacted tech support to get a new mainboard sent out, discovered that the original Syntax Brillian company went bankrupt and service is now being handled by a company who says only 1 year warranty on all Olevia HDTVs. Replacement by them in your home is $318 and only a 90 day warranty on the service. Only other option that I can think of is use a cable or directTV settop box interface and connect it via HDMI.
If anyone can find the original warranty with the 1yr/3yr wording, I'd try going back to the retailer and get them to stand by that and send out a new main board, else if the cable or satelite settop box won't work for you keep looking for a remote tuner similar to the panasonic's functions without the dvd recording if you don't want that. Some of the new converter boxes that are almost free with the $40 government cuopons might work if they have the composite as well as the rf output, but will only detect ATSC not QAM and you'd have to experiment with getting the proper aspect ratio using the Olevia's remote's Aspect control.
