I have had bad memory straight out of the "box". Just becuase it's new memory does not mean it's good.

Take it back and get another stick.

Can i use DDR2 SODIMM 800MHz PC6400 in my laptop even though the one in it now is a DDR SODIMM PC3200 CL3?

pc3200 is original ddr- ram but pc6400 specifies to ddr2. The ram is not compatible. And the key slots on your mainboard will prevent installation.

It sounds like you have laptop memory which is much shorter than standard ram. I would take it back and return it. You should have 240 pin ram for a desktop and 200 pin ram in laptop type devices.

Whether DDR is compatible for hp pavilion dv1000 or only sdram is compatible. With which ram can i upgrade.

Hi,

According to the maintenance manual only 266Mhz Ram can be added to the notebook.
This would be SDRAM.
Hope this helps!!

Kind regards!!!

How do I FIND a repair manual so I CAN upgrade system memory

You most likely have purchased the wrong memory for this. It should be a 200 pin SOdimm DDR.

Crucial.com lists the specifications here: http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=WinBook%20V415.

I hope that helps. Good luck!

RAM upgrade is not working

A 200-pin PC-3200 SODIMM should work in your machine but it will clock down to 333MHz. Your computer has 2 slots with a max of 512MB per slot (1GB total system memory). For maximum compatibility you should stick with a low density (16-chip - double-sided) PC2700 DDR-333 SODIMM with a CL of 2.5. Link below to see an example:

New ram

Memory type is the major problem with the 741GX chipset. Very touchy. I used Crucial PC3200 High Density memory to start with (2 x 1 gig Memory), system was lagging even though adjusted settings in bios. whenever a USB device was pluged in, the system would stop responding. Switched to low density memory and no problems since (Ultra PC3200 (2 x 1 gig Memory), and the USB device problem is also solved. I am running WinXP with SP2.
