I have a Gateway Desktop computer, and I have had it for a couple years, and it just wouldn't turn on. So I need to know if that means that computer is dead?

Check for any lights. Usually a computer would have a flea light on the motherboard as soon as you plug it in. If it doesn't have a flea light, start with the power supply. Swap the power cord of the monitor with the power supply of your desktop. If it still would not show power, try replacing the power supply. Worse case, you may need to replace the motherboard of your computer which would cost a lot.

Keyboard typing wrong fg when pressing f key l comes out l/ on gateway Fpd1520

Might have a bad milar/memory in your keyboard, this is a sheet behind the keys. I would try another keyboard. Or you might set a diffferent languague to your keyboard. You can change it back by changing the input language (i.e. keyboard language). http://www.conversationexchange.com/resources/keyboard-language.php

My gateway model 900G monitor will not display an image. The on/off button does not light up and the power cord is good. What can I do?

If the on/off light is not lit, then the monitor is not receiving power for some reason.

This could be:

Power is not available, meaning the outlet maight be dead.

The power supply [power converter too, if it has a square/rectangular box as part of the powercord] for the monitor is bad, meaning it is getting power from the outlet, but nothing makes it to the monitor.

The power converter or cirucuit board in the monitor is bad nad needs to be replaced, because power is getting to the monitor, but the monitor is either not able to convert it into useable current, or the circuit board within the monitor is damaged.

You can find out which is going on by doing the following:

Grab a $10 voltmeter at your hardware store and check the power coming from your outlet, then plug the power cord/converter into the outlet and check the other end for same. Note: If your power cord has a converter on it, check to make sure the voltage/amps are the same as what is printed on the label of power converter. If those are all good, then your monitor needs repair. get a quote first before allowing any work to be done, as it could cost more to fix this than a new monitor would cost.
