Belt replacement on Black and Decker GrassHog XP - Grass Trimmer GH1000\r\nI am having problem opening the plastic case to access the belt and gears. After removal of the screws holding the ****-shell plastic enclosure, the back end opens, but the two halfs are held together near the Push Button that extends the trimmer head. Without opening the two halfs I do not have enough room to replace the belt.

I have never worked on these units so I am sending you a parts breakdown diagram, so you can maybe solve your disassembly problem.

I have the same problem my belt is ok but part of the belt drive is stripped, and I have an awful feeling its the side connected to the motor!! that has to be brought with a new motor the schematics are of no help it shows only 6 screws and there are more, at first I thought it was the button to extend the strimmer but it looks like thats not connected to the case

There is 1 more screw under the label. Feel with you finger
and you`ll find the hole.

Belt replacement grasshog trimmer

after you have the cover off and actually able to see the motor and pulley assembly, gently slide the square dive cable forward and out of the center of the pulley. You will gently pry the assembly up at the bearing located at front of pulley. You don't need to remove it completely out of the housing...just enough to slide the new belt into there. Same problem; GH700 with a stripped gear, inside the casing.
I wish places with replacement parts sell uncommonly broken pieces... I didn't have an account for commenting a request in that site.
If someone asked them, it could be available in a matter of time.

I see your predicament. Even at a parts warehouse they are only offering the entire motor assembly as one part. Here are the parts they have available for the GH1000.

I had the same problem, there is another screw hidden under the black sticker. If you feel around, there is a soft spot. That's it.

GH1000 Motor runs but spool just quit working.this is electric.

Same thing happened to me. The belt broke. You'll need to take off all the screws to change the belt. There's a hidden screw under the black label. Feel around for the soft spot.

ENGINE WILL NOT ENGAGE WITH SPINNING SPOOL

I had the same problem, The pully is plastic and is mostlikely melted. I took mine apart when it finally stopped working and found that the belt had broken as well. When taking it apart, there is a hidden screw under the black sticker label. Just feel for the soft spot. Also, there are screws under the black plastic embelishments.

The same thing happened to me. You either have a ruined belt pulley, or, hopefully, the belt burned out. Belts are easy to find online, but the housing is tricky to remove - see other posts.

I finally got it the plastic housing apart on my trimmer (there is one screw hidden under the label), only to find a total meltdown. The plastic pulley is ruined, and the only way to get it replaced is to buy a new motor (the most expensive part).

If your trimmer is no longer under warranty, then you can get a refurbished gh1000 for the price a new motor unit.
