I CAN sync Outlook with my Palm M505 device when I install the latest Hotsync and Outlook Conduit software on my Dell Precision 370 running Windows XP and Office 2003
I CANNOT get the Outlook conduit to work on my IBM T42 laptop with the same device and software. The IBM makes a 3-tone error beep when I try to sync.
I've tried the suggestions on this website, I've uninstalled and reinstalled all Palm software, hacked all the Palm entries out of the registry, logged in as other users, booted in safe mode, booted with no other startup items running.
Do I need to disable the infrared, the modem, the wireless...?? I'm stuck here. Any help would be truly appreciated.

You have your Hotsync software set to use a com port instead of USB. Right Click on the Hotsync icon on the lower right part of your PC desktop and change it to USB and you should be good to go.
The IBM Workpad is just like a Palm. I have the Workpad C500 which is actually a Palm M500. If you have a Workpad C505 it is a Palm M505. Anything you can buy for a Palm M500 will work with a C500 and anything you get for a M505 will work with a C505.
If you do NOT have a USB Sync cable for your Workpad I suggest you do what I did... Just get a combination Sync and charge USB cable at Staples or Best Buy for your M500 or M505 and use it. It was about 20 but you can get them cheaper on the Net.
I hope this helps you!
Don't skip the initial HotSync for secondary computer!
Alright, I figured this one out on my own and figured I'd post what I'd learned so that others don't have to endure the teeth mashing, hair pulling, snarling frustration. (self induced as it may be)
My experiences have taught me to not always trust a cookie cutter installation wizard...especially for custom app installations (ie: primary = home, secondary=work, total sync, no priority). So, I did not perform the initial sync during installation of the palm software fearing that the new installation would NOT recognize that the work computer was a secondary machine and resultantly wipe out the old palm data from the primary machine. Turns out, as I saw in many other unrelated posts, that it's difficult (if not impossible) to specify conduit direction to outlook 2003 outside of the initial sync (this prompted me to specifically look for conduit direction during install). So, this wizard is one I should have trusted...by mistake...because of weak program design.
By the way...once I specified sync with outlook during the initial sync, EVERYTHING works fine despite not having installed the two "imperative" conduit updates (they were uninstalled after several previous failed attempts at this).
Hope this helps
"PLEASE SET SYNCHRONIZATION OPTION ENABLE SYNC WHEN OUTLOOK IN UI IN ORDER TO SYNC IN OFFLINE MODE"
Just go to your Hotsync Manager icon
Click each Outlook conduit
ex. Calendar Outlook
Check the Box that says Enable Synchronization when Outlook is Offline
Then do same process for Contacts, Tasks and Memos.
Wherever your updated data is..make sure you set Action of conduit to example: Desktop Overwrites HH (if your OUTLOOK has the most updated data.)
Hope that resolves your problem.
After installing, reinstalling, deleting, hard resets, hitting head against wall... I tried installing the Pocket Mirror conduit as a last ditch effort. An error message popped up saying it could not find the mapi32.dll file. I looked at another PC, located that file in the windows32 directory, copied it to my PC, and I was able to hotsync with Outlook. To test this, I uninstalled the Pocket Mirror and Palm desktop SW, then deleted the mapi32.dll. Installed the Palm 4.1.4 sw, outlook 101 update, plus the conduit update, had same error messages. Added the mapi32.dll to the windows32 directory - was able to successfully sync with Outlook!
