Unfortunately, you failed to mention which model GE AC unit you have. But, in most cases, E2 indicates a Sensor Failure Shutdown. Try turning the unit OFF & unplugging it it for 15 minutes. Then plug it back in and turn it ON. Hopefully, during the timeout, the electronics reset and reverted back to the original factory settings. If so, set the controls as you like and see what happens. If the E2 code reappears, contact GE Customer Service. The number should be in your Owner's Manual.
