some machines will want all covers to be opened, then closed, for good reset. if you are having jams in the adf, then open all adf covers, and lift the adf upward, if it allows. also, try turning unit off, then back on. some jams only clear that way.
Make sure that there isn't any little piece of paper caught near a sensor. Often when a jam is removed, the operator rips the paper, leaving some if it there inside. If it's near a sensor, you'll get a constant jam indication. Use a flashlight to check for it.
When ever there is a jam be sure to try and remove the jam without tearing the paper. If you do rip the paper piece it back together to assure you removed all of the jam. If there is one tiny scrap left and it lies across a sensor the jam will remain. Easier to happen than you may think.
