Have this problem with my upstairs winxp desktop w/Linksys wireless adapter USB). Can't renew IP address, but great connection. (Limited or no Connectivity)

All computers, one hard wired and two wireless, have worked together until this event.

My downstairs laptop (Toshiba, built in wireless) picks up wireless just fine. As does the hardwired PC. (plugged into the router directly)

My business laptop, when it was here recently, also couldn't log on to the wireless network. (built in wireless)

So, the wireless signal is there, but only supporting one IP address???

I thought it could be my adapter upstairs, but why wouldn't another computer not work on the system?

I have removed and reinstalled USB Linsys drivers. Unplugged router, adapter, rebooted, troubleshot with Windows..

This is an older model..of wireless router 2004ish

Linksys wants 30.00 to troubleshoot and they can't really understand me!! It took 5 minutes for the guy to give me a case number when he should have had it in 30 seconds...

    Thanks!!

If your PC is running XP, download this little program, and then run it, you will have to reboot, but it sorts about 85% of DHCP assigned IP address issues in one step

From ur laptop click "Start" then "Connect to" then "wireless network connection" then "view wireless networks" Your signal is probably the strongest one. Double click on it and it should aquire the network address automatically. Your in business!

Linksys router connects and says it has an excellent signal but will not aquire an address please help

Try a hardwire computer and get into the setup page of the router by typing 192.168.1.1 on your browser . Make sure you have changed the SSID or the network name of your router to your choice. Check if you have security set. If you have one make sure they match your computer.

Airlink ar430w not giving a network address to netgear wpn111

Try assigning the IP address manually. To do so go to Network Connections, right click on the wireless connection and click on Properties, select Internet Protocol TCP/IP and click on Properties again. Select use the following IP address and type the address of the same range as of your Router's IP. In case you do not know the range try 192.168.1.5 or 172.16.1.5 with the subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 for both, and when you use the IP as 192.168.1.5 use the default gateway as 192.168.1.1 and for 172.16.1.5 use the default gateway as 172.16.1.1 Also select the lower option as "Use following DNS Server address" and for 192.168.1.5 use 192.168.1.1 and for 172.168.1.5 use 172.16.1.1 .Click on Ok. Click on Ok again and now check for the connectivity.

Aquiring network address

Hey there,

in connecting wirelessly to the router, we need to make sure the encryption on the router.

Access the router setup screen, check the IP address first of the computer.

Open IE type there 192.168.1.1 username is blank and password is admin.

once it is on the setup screen checked the wireless tab and look for wireless security, verify it and try to connect again.

in your wireless computer, right click wireless connection and go to view available wireless network, try to connect - input the network key if in case it is not asking you for it, click the changed the order of the preferred networks and then removed all the preferred networks there, then try to connect again and you will now be asked for a network try to connect and you should be connected then.

Aquiring Network Connection over and over. RAWR

How many DHCP devices are there on the network?
There should be only one. Try disabling the DHCP in your device, then your neighbours router should issue IP addresses and all will be ok.

Cannot pick up internet with WBR1310 wirreless Router

Hi lola,
You may want to check your network settings.
Go to start->control panel-> network connections. Right click on your wireless connection and select properties. A new window will appear, under "This ocnnection uses the following items" in the general tab, scroll down until you see Internet Protocol TCP/IP.  Make sure the tick box beside it is checked.  Select it, then click properties.
Another window will now pop up.  Make sure that Obtain an IP address automatically, is selected, and Obtain DNS server address automatically is selected.  Then click OK, and OK on both windows.
If this is already set correctly then the most likely cause is that you have entered the wrong wireless authentication key (password) for the encrypted network.  Make sure that you have entered all of your username, SSID, and password information for that wireless connection correctly.
You also may want to check that you are in fact attempting to connect to YOUR wireless network (you may have multiple wireless networks in your area).
Hope this helps, and please don't forget to vote/rate!

I can not connect to the local area connection.

1. check your network adapter TCP/IP settings if its set into "Obtain as IP address Automatically".
2. if the settings is set as Automatic and your not getting IP address then select "Use the following IP Address"
3. use IP address followed to your router address like if192.168.0.1 in router type 192.168.0.2 or192.168.0.3 justcheck the next address IP in your network.
4. after typing subnet IP will automatically set
5. type the router IP address as your default gateway
6. click OK to save your new settings

hope this will help you

WRT54G

check the cables. the cable coming from the modem should be connected to the internet port of the router.
power cycle. turn off all the devices then turn on the modem first. wait for the modem to boot up before turning on the router and the computers.
if you are using a wireless computer, make sure that you are connected to the signal coming from your router. customize (change ssid, wireless channel) your wireless settings if still set to default and try to connect again

hope this'll help you

ciao

Setup

If that is the report that the laptop gives for an IP address, then you have to change the IP address settings.
Go into your network settings, and tell it to automatically aquire an address, and DNS.
Once you click OK, it should sense the DCHP from the router.
If the IP is already set to automatically aquire, then the router needs to be reset to factory defaults. That should put you back to the 192.168.2.xxx settings.
