Western Digital, Hitachi, and IBM all make good hard drives. As far as the size, that's just up to you, how much space you want and how much you want to spend. I recommend checking pricewatch.com for the drive, they have the best prices. Many times I can get hard drives from Price Watch cheaper than I can from my retail suppliers.

I need a harddrive for my toshiba laptop-what kind do I get?

Any laptop brand will work.
It is nice to get the same size or larger drive and to get the correct connection, IDE or SATA.
You didn't give your model so you need to google your model number with the words "disk drive" after it. That should take you to a site to purchase a new one. Amazon & NewEgg can walk you through this also.

Can I replace my gateway T-6836 laptop 250 gb hardrive

Yes, it can be upgraded for a larger drive. The important specs to know are the physical size and the interface. The size that this computer needs is the 2.5 inch and the interface is the SATA. These are the typical size and interface used today so finding a drive that fits should not be a problem.

Hope this helps.

N800v harddrive blew out

It depends upon your needs, the larger the hard drive to higher the cost and the maximun size you can install depends upon the BIOS. The smallest hard drive that is readily available is about 100Gb.

My sony vaio s460 does not detect the hardrive, after I installed new 120 gig sata, I called to sony and they said tha I need the same hardrive 80m gig 5400 rpm, as the laptop comes from factory, it is...

It may be that your machine can not handle a drive of that size. When I replace hard drives I always try to replace them with the size they came with just in case they do not support a larger size.

Hard Disk upgrade

Figured this out...
1)  Flip laptop over, keep front of laptop closest to you and hinges away from you 2)  Remove cover with cylinder/harddrive icon (2 screws) 3)  Remove small single silver screw near the front (close to you) of the laptop in the center of the metal harddrive caddy (the caddy may hold one or two hard drives) 4)  Pull the plastic tab on the left toward the outside of the laptop... the whole caddy with harddrive(s) inside will shift to the left, disconnecting it from the motherboard and lining up the caddy for removal. 5)  Lift the entire bracket straight up
To remove the primary harddrive (the only one present in my model) you must remove the blue L-shaped circuit board from the caddy. 1)  Flip the caddy over 2)  Remove the three screws with slightly larger head diameters around the perimiter of the caddy 3)  Push/slide/jiggle the circuit board so the sata connectors release from the hard drive(s). 4)  Unscrew the hard drive from the caddy

Bios won't reconise 160 gig maxtor harddrive

You could try a BIOS update to increase the size of the Drive the BIOS is able to see.

The second last one indicates that drive sizes are supported over 65GB. It may still not be able to see the 160GB HDD, but this is your only option with this Board. You could always upgrade the Motherboard to support larger drives.

Good Luck.

Hard drive

The Compaq Armada M700 laptop has a PATA (or IDE) hard drive verus a SATA hard drive which is the newer standard. This computer's factory hard drive could not have been any larger than 20 GBs. However, one this size is not readily available anymore so you'll have to go larger. Here is the type of hard drive that you need: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8692373&type=product&id=1198286608739

Compaq presario 1685 is this particular system xp compatible.

Unfortunately, the Hard Drive size is only 4.3 GB, while WinXP takes 3 GB and requires at least 5 GB to run. Even if you did have an external Hard Drive, the amount of RAM is not enough to let you do anything. Stay with your current OS or get a new PC.
