Question about Computers & Internet

I have an HP Pavilion 743 desktop with a Lucent Win Modem. Recently, it connects with my dial-up ISP, but then disconnects, and redials the next available number, then connects, then disconnects, etc. I have checked it diagnostically, and it's o.k. Is it possible that my ISP no longer supports this modem? If so, can I install an external modem in one of the USB ports?

make a menu on top toolbar right click in top toolbar
select menu bar this will add file edit view fav tools and help

click on tools then from the drop down list internet options connections tick in never dial a connection

then you will have to add your isp internet service provider
first you must have an ISP Internet Service provider contract which will provide you with a modem and leads you can choose either a dial up usb or

an ethernet connection to connect to the internet or
if you have a laptop you can choose a wireless usb modem
which can work on a desktop aswell once you recieve the modem just insert the disk provided and follow the prompts to set up your new internet connection

during the setup process you will be asked for a password I suggest you make a log of all pass words used outside of your computer incase of memory lapses

I just brought a dell 10' netbook and i have dial up phone service so how can i get the internet on my netbook with dial up service?


Here is the internet setup info for that netbook from Dell's website ...

Setting up Your Internet Connection To connect to the Internet, you need a modem or network connection and an Internet Service provider (ISP).
To set up an Internet connection with a provided ISP desktop shortcut:
  1. Save and close any open files, and exit any open programs.

  2. Double-click the ISP icon on the Microsoft® Windows® desktop.

  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the setup.

note.gif NOTE: Have your ISP information ready. If you do not have an ISP, the Connect to the Internet wizard can help you obtain one.
If you do not have an ISP icon on your desktop or if you want to set up an Internet connection with a different ISP:
Windows Vista®
  1. Save and close any open files, and exit any open programs.

  2. Click Start interne3.jpg ® Control Panel® Network and Internet.

  3. Under Network and Sharing Center, click Connect to the Internet.

The Connect to the Internet window appears.

Trying to connect to internet but screen says internal modem has no driver - it sees no modem


If you're compuer is connected to a router or DSL/Cable modem through Ethernet connection, you don't need to have to use internal modem. Internal modem are just for dial up connection.

If everytime you launch IE browser and it gives you that prompt, your browser may have set up to connect everytime to a dial up connection. Try to check these settings on your IE:

1. Go to Start> Settings> Control Panel> Internet Options
2. On Internet Options, go to Connections tab.
3. Delete everything under Dial Up and Virtual Private Network Settings, Or just set it to 'Never Dial A Connection'.
4. Click on LAN Settings button.
5. On the next window, uncheck everything (particularly the proxy setting).
6. Click OK all the way out.

HP pavilion dv5-1125nr notebook, dial up modem is not working


Save yourself alot of grief. Purchase a PCMIA or USB modem and your done. A very inexpensive fix. I am a certified HP Master tech and I will tell you that HP does have some consistent problems withg their modems. If you can spare a few bucks go to www.driveragent.com and try to locate an updated driver.

I HAVE DIAL UP MODEM IS NOT CONNECTING TO INTERNET


few things you could do b4 accusing the ISP, 1. Check 2c if the Modem is detected and drivers 4 it installed, i.e Right Click on My Computer----Choose Properties-----Hardware-----Device Manager (If your Modem is in the List and there is no Excamation or Question Mark over it then it looks good.

Next is to do a Modem Query, i.e.Daignostic test on it and if that passes then possibly the TelLine cable and or ISP Settings (Internet Explorer? is that what you use?) Also if you have Firewall Software, I would temporarely disable it when trying to Connect to your ISP.

More info re Operating System, Modem Make and Model plus if using a Firewall would go along wayto resolving your problem.

Modem, Dial Up Connection Problem


here's some help...go to : start menu,all programmes,accessories,communications and to hyper terminal..type in test, and click o.k.,make sure all the settings are o.k., type in your mobile or your second land line number to test if the modem dials that number.if that test works then contact your i.s.p to check on your account.
