Question about HP iPAQ HX4705 Pocket PC

1 Answer

WIFI w/WEP I have my office wifi using WEP and can not get my hx4705 to connect using wep. I have no problems with public and my home which do not use wep. It just seems to hang up when I try to connect. We have tried with a couple of Ipaq's of other models and have the same problem. Any ideas??

Re: WIFI w/WEP

Hi, I use 128 wep at home with no problem. A couple of points: 1) NEVER use the 'phrase' option. 2) Always type out the key in UPPER case, everywhere. On the iPaq, on your router, everywhere. It is NOT supposed to make a difference when you enter a hex key, but some hardware will see 'a' and 'A' as different. A sample key would be: 1234567890ABC1234567890ABC1234567890ABC 3) Alway s do a 'battery reset' after configuring the adapter. That is, pull the battery for 10 seconds and then put it back in. A soft reset does not reset the WiFi hardware. You will not lose any data (this is NOT a hard reset).

I can't use the WIFI in my ASUS A716 through neither my work or home internet though I enter the correct passcode for both networks I always get a msg saying that I have entered the wrong passcode!!

Greetings Reem - There are two likely problems keeping your Pocket PC from connecting to either your home or work WiFi networks.

The first is that your A716 is probably still running Windows Mobile 2003 or has been upgraded to Windows Mobile 5 -- Neither of which is capable of supporting the WPA security standard that is most likely setup on your work network and probably also on your home WiFi router. The easiest thing to do at work is to ask the person in charge of the network what kind of security is used on the network. Same goes for home -- Ask the person who setup the WiFi connection.

If the answer is WPA or anything other than WEP ( or open - meaning no security -- very, very improbable) you won't be able to connect your PDA to that network at all. At home maybe you have a chance to have the security settings lowered to WEP (of course your A716 will also have to be setup to use WEP).

The other possible problem you might be having with connecting is that your device has 802.11b WiFi built in (11 Mbps) instead of the now standard 802.11g (54 Mbps). Some networks are setup only to allow 802.11g connections. Again, you would ask at work and home. Here, if that is the problem, you have a chance of the settings being changed to allow 802.11b connections.

Thanks for using Fix Ya and good luck

Wifi connection issues with Palm One LifeDrive

It sounds like you need to setup the network settings on the palm or the wep or securty key or both.

When it shows the network id tap edit then enter the wep or wpa key if needed, then tap details to get to the screen where you enter the normal network details.

Usually it is just the security key that causes this. Get that code in and you might pop right on.

I am trying to connect my asus mypal to my wireless internet

Hi, I helped a friend of mine with his wifi setup. His WEP Key was on the side of his router. I don't remember the exact work but it was something Key. It was 10 numbers long just right for a 64 bit key. If you are using Win XP there is a wifi setup in there. I have a mypal A626 and had it up and running in a few minutes on my wifi system. If you have security, you will need to find the code in order to get a connection. grader01

LG Incite Wifi Setting

settings
connections
WIFI
connect to "internet"
authentication "open"
encryyption "WEP"
I let it assign it's own IP address

Start -> Settings -> Connections tab
WiFi -> Network Adapters tab
select "The Internet" and then select Broadcom 802.11 DHD Network Adapter

and

Start -> Programs -> Tools -> Proxy Manager
click on "Disable Proxy" and hit OK

Also, make sure you set the browser Home address to a valid address (otherwise it would complain about a connection loss each time you open the browser)..

If that doesn't help you then your lost.

Can't connect Blackberry Curve 8320 to 2wire wifi

W002 - Wi-Fi Connection Failed

Means The phone cannot get an IP Address from the Server.

Common issues are

The signal is to weak to make a reliable connection

WEP is configured incorrectly or WPA

DHCP may be disabled, it needs to be enabled on the router

There are other more technical issues to this but without more information this should be a good start.

Wifi not function

My Internet service provider walked me through connecting correctly. I had chosen the WEP security options and should have chosen the WPA-PSK option. Call your service provider and get them to help verify your security access codes.

wifi should be simple. Go to the wifi screen (depending on the OS you have) normally its in the bottom left hand side of the screen. Click that and ask for it to search for local wifi. Make sure you have a wireless modem or a wifi hotspot near you and if wireless router is Wep encrypted then you will need to get the right config for it.

How to connect my palm to my computer when I am using a reseault Linksys

hi. try this.

have the tx search for you network using the wifi button at the bottom of the screen.
select/highlight your network and click edit. note do not connect to it yet
click configure.
on the security, pull down the arrow and pick WEP (or WPA according to what your router has.) note that since you mentioned the 10 digit alphanumeric code i assume it is WEP
on the key type click on 40 bit hex
i usually leave the four keys unchecked. (unless you have 4 keys)
insert your alphanumeric key that you use to protect your network into the dotted line.
ok
ok
click yes to connect. enjoy.

if your pda has connected and you still cannot get your internet, please read below.

PS. some internet servers may require a new user to input a name and password as a safeguard. this is familiar when you try to log into a public wifi hotspot with your laptop and the web browser always redirects you to an agreement page.

if this is so, what i do is to run my internet browser. let it load the first page then i accept the agreement and i am in.

hope this works for you. please feel free to email me with any more questions.
enjoy
