Where is the location & how to remove the hard drive for toshiba satelite P15-S470

Hi,

The hard drive is located under the CD/DVD drive. Before you start taking apart the laptop, remove the battery and unplug the AC power.

1. You have to remove the CD/DVD drive. Turn the laptop over. Remove one screw right above the dive and slide the drive out of the laptop.
2. When the CD/DVD drive is removed, you'll see a metal plate. The metal plate is secured by 4 screws. Remove them and lift up the plate from the bay. The hard drive is located right under the plate.
3. After you remove the plate, you'll see the hard drive. The hard drive also secured by 4 screws. Remove the screws, slide the hard dire to disconnect it from the connector on the moterboard and lift it up.
4. You have to transfer the brackets from the old hard drive to a new hard drive. Also, if there is a foil shielding around the old hard drive, you'll have to transfer it to a new hard drive too.

Below is website with a picture guide on how to remove the hard drive>>>>

My Toshiba p300 laptop has suddenly lost its operating system. It says pxe rom "operating system not found media test failure" Any suggestions battery is 2 1/2 years old running windows vista....

I am glad to HELP YOU!

Usually this error appears when your booting media [HDD] is damaged or your CMOS settings are wrong.
This issue is caused by
1. an incorrect setting in CMOS setup
or
2. a bad boot device [a bad hard disk].

WHAT TO DO:

# verify that your boot options are correctly set in CMOS setup. I'd suggest to set the CD/DVD as your first boot device and the hard drive as the second boot device.
# if your CMOS setup has an option to boot from the LAN, then give up this option by disabling it.
# if you changed any CMOS settings - SAVE AND EXIT from CMOS setup and reboot the machine.
If this does not resolve the issue try to reset the CMOS/BIOS values to the default settings > SAVE AND EXIT > REBOOT.

GOOD LUCK!

I wiped clean my toshiba satellite pro p300 and tried to load operating system ,screen say's press enter to continue loading, when i press enter screen shows cannot find hard drive etc etc can anyone...

If you insert your Vista or Win7 disc into the DVD drive and boot form that, make sure that the BIOS is set to recognise the hard disc. The OS disc will do the rest. If it cannot find the hard disc, maybe the hard disc is faulty.
When you are successful, go to toshiba.com and download the latest drivers and firmware for the BIOS.
Hope that helps.

This can be caused by a few things. Either send it in to be fixed if its under warranty. Or take it apart to get at the hard drive inside and try and plug it in internally to retrieve your files.

Averatec 6200 rw dvd drive doesnt work

YEs, typically that sound means the Hard Drive crashed. Although you may be able to still use it, its not recomended. Hopefully you backed up you important files because most likely they are un-recoverable. Does the laptop boot at all? If so, do you get a hard drive not found error? any errors?

You can easily replace a hard drive on a laptop. usually you just remove a small screw and pull the old hard drive out and replace with a new one.

Go to any computer store or if you can, order one online as it may be cheaper.

Order a new one, get one with more hard drive space if you want, especially if you have alot of files.

Make sure its the right type of Hard drive as well. I.E. SATA or IDE. If you dont know, then take your old hard drive with you to a computer store with knowledgable techs who can get you the right one. Typicall you can get an 80 gig hard drive for under $60 depending if its a SATA or IDE and what speed it is.

Keep the old one untill you know the new one is the right one in case you have to compare it again with another one.

You will have to re-install your operating system ( Windows XP, Vista, ETC. )

then once all that is done, you will have to go through the task of re-installing all your software, printers and files.

Hope you kept that re-install disk that came with the laptop, that has your hardware drivers and Operating system on it.

Dont be affraid to look at the specifications of the laptop in the owners manual or to take that with you when you go looking for a new hard drive.

Being knowledgable about what your looking for helps to keep sales people from selling you more than what your looking for.

Tigerdirect.com and Newegg.com are two placethat have the item your looking for and usually at a good price.

Good luck.

Hard drive problem

Every 4/5 days my laptop fails to boot and I get message "no operating system found"----my drive is only a few months old. However, I have found that if I take out the drive and replace it there will be no problem for a week or ten days. Thus I suspect the problem has something to do with a build up of static. How can I prevent this and save all the hassle?
