On the money part- If the unit is not in its described condition you are entitled to a refund but a lot of my clients work out a deal with the seller in a partial refund. This seems to be the best equitable solution together with a proper service technician. I am way too busy- why do you think that is? Whatever you do with E bay do not wait. The solution to the problem needs to be take care of quickly. Shipping units back not only costs you money but leaves you nothng to show for the whole venture. I have even had customers send me their E bay purchases directly, then they get a perfect unit ready to go back.

The money issue is up to you. I would have a look at the heads and then take note of the cosmetic condition of the deck overall. The unit can be brought back to specs but no by just any shop or owner- it need to be worked on by a professional. I do them all the time. If you ask I will tell you where I am but generally I am not suppose to advertise. you most likely need a capstan belt and lub job.

Hi ok, the system has relays now if this has been standing around for years doing nothing the relays will stick this could be the record problem , 0k the tape tension levers/ idle wheels either side that bob up and down control the tape speed regulator . this is the probable cause of why it wont rewind there is a control transistor tha has gone bad./ or open circuit . these machines are like cars in every way you must use them . now these units are very desirable teac made a mighty fine deck like all the company's. so do you get rid or fix i restore these decks all makes. i take it from the dollars logo you are in the states or did you buy it from the states. i am in the uk i am working on one of these at the moment. if it was me ,,,,,,,,,,,,,fix it they are a fab looker and they sound punchy and true analogue.you will get $600 to £1500 if in good condition if its silver more if you were in uk price to fix my price £190..00

I am not sure a stuck relay is the issue in this deck- maybe older A series but mote likely the long slide switches that need Deoxit and exercise. Ebay often times is the cause of someone learning a hard lesson but if they persist in the right direction- then guys like me can restore the deck as good as can be. The X1000R was the best X series deck they produced. The X2000R was a cheaped out version with many flaws.

Hi there. It will need a new pinch roller, and has a bias oscillator. problem. From memory, they use a module for the oscillator, and the pinch rollers are easy to get. Sorting out the bias may be the problematic part, and you will need to recalibrate the bias traps and controls if you want max performance from the unit once repaired. I would go about checking things like intermittent tape bias switch, and try wriggling the record play switch( internally) and see if you can get erase and rec back. Noisy intermittent switches can caused the symptoms you have.

If you are able to, I would be seeking a refund. If not, then repairs are feasible. Let me know where you are and I can help you find a repair guy. Cheers

If the deck erases there is nothing wrong with the oscillator but you may be correct in the slide switches that move for reverse operation. Bias traps are ONLY adjusted when either someone plays with them or the heads are changed. This comes from a Teac Technician and the service manual.

This level of machine requires a service Technician with knowledge of the workings of this machine. The typical Technician will adjust it to work but often times it is a mess when they get done. There are two remaining Techs that know their stuff in the US. They are Russ Bachmann at New Jersey Factory Service. Then there is myself at Skywave Tape Deck Repair (Chicago area). Contact me if you need help in Chicago or Russ in the New Jersey or NY area. We both take shipped in units all the time. We both worked for Teac and have been doing the job since the 80's.

I have a teac 3340 reel to reel recorder and believe it can only function in 2 speeds 7 1/2 ips and 15 ips. I have many reel to reel recordings that are 3 3/4 ips. Is there an adapter or gadget I can use...

In short, no. if you look closely you will see the Teac 3340 has a much larger/thicker capstan shaft than other Teac reel decks. This feature allows the faster tape speeds...7 1/2 and 15 ips. In order to slow down the Teac 3340 you would have to change the flywheel to one from another deck that was made to run at 3 3/4 and 7 1/2. Which is possible but some work..plus you would have to find a slower speed flywheel from another Teac deck. Also to maintain performance, the bias and Eq positions for the slower speeds would have to be readjusted from 7 1/2 and 15.

If you are not familiar with such work, I don't recommend trying to install belt(s). Replacing belts may involve disassembly of mechanism parts and critical adjustments to follow. Take to a pro/tech
