If you are trying to recover a key of an already installed program on your computer there are freeware keyfinders on the internet
http://download.cnet.com/%7Bvalue=http://www.download.com/magical-jelly-bean-keyfinder/3000-18487_4-10079600.html The Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder is a freeware utility that retrieves your Product Key (cd key) used to install windows from your registry.

It has the options to copy the key to clipboard, save it to a text file, or print it for safekeeping.
Serial keys Location
Lift up your computer and look for a tag.
The tag will probably be located on the side of the computer, or on the bottom of the unit for a laptop.
The service tag is generally a large black and white tag and it will say "Service Tag Number."
Do not confuse this tag with the Windows tag, which may be located in the same area on the computer.

bootable USB guide, here we assume that you are using either Vista or Windows 7 to create a bootable USB.
1. Insert your USB (4GB+ preferable) stick to the system and backup all the data from the USB as we are going to format the USB to make it as bootable.
2. Open elevated Command Prompt. To do this, type in CMD in Start menu search field and hit Ctrl + Shift + Enter. Alternatively, navigate to Start > All programs >Accessories > right click on Command Prompt and select run as administrator.
3. When the Command Prompt opens, enter the following command:
DISKPART and hit enter.
LIST DISK and hit enter.
Once you enter the LIST DISK command, it will show the disk number of your USB drive. In the below image my USB drive disk no is Disk 1.

4. In this step you need to enter all the below commands one by one and hit enter. As these commands are self explanatory, you can easily guess what these commands do.
SELECT DISK 1 (Replace DISK 1 with your disk number)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
SELECT PARTITION 1
ACTIVE
FORMAT FS=NTFS
(Format process may take few seconds)
ASSIGN
EXIT
Don't close the command prompt as we need to execute one more command at the next step. Just minimize it.

5. Insert your Windows DVD in the optical drive and note down the drive letter of the optical drive and USB media. Here I use "D" as my optical (DVD) drive letter and "H" as my USB drive letter.
6. Go back to command prompt and execute the following commands:
D:CD BOOT and hit enter. Where "D" is your DVD drive letter.
CD BOOT and hit enter to see the below message.
BOOTSECT.EXE/NT60 H:
(Where "H" is your USB drive letter)

7. Copy Windows DVD contents to USB.
You are done with your bootable USB. You can now use this bootable USB as bootable DVD on any computer that comes with USB boot feature (most of the current motherboards support this feature).
Note that this bootable USB guide will not work if you are trying to make a bootable USB on XP computer.

I am unable to open my trnascend external hard drive

This dilemna happens frequently, especially with machines running Windows 8. Recently, I had 2 hard drives that just randomly show as RAW disks. It sounds like you have important data you need to salvage, but ultimately, the drive will need to be reformatted in order to once again work with your operating system.
You have two options to recover your data before you format:
1. Download a linux based operating system called UBUNTU
www.ubuntu.com
It can be installed on a disc, and run entirely off the disk without affecting your computer. Magically, Linux operating systems struggle less with accessing difficult drives. You may be able to simply run Ubuntu off of the cd, plug in your drive and simply copy and paste the important data onto a different backup media.
Option 2:
Download EASEUS recovery tool for free.
http://www.partition-tool.com/download.htm
Using this simple program, you can scan the disk for bad sectors, and you can set the program to repair the disk, making it accessible. Even after, the disk may show as a group of scattered disorganized folders, but you should be able to find the information, move it to another media and then re-format for a brighter future.
Good luck,

How can i reformat my computer?

Hi there. You need a bootable Windows disk for the next operation. Insert the bootable Windows disk into your CD rom and restart the machine. The PC should boot from the cd. Follow the prompts on screen and say "New installation". The next screen will show the harddrive on which you want to install the operating system. Select drive "c" and it will say that you cannont have multiple operating systems on the PC. Type "F" to format the drive and continue with a fresh installation. Hope this helps. Please feel free to ask about anything regarding this matter

1) All you need is a *bootable* Windows CD/DVD. 2) Go to your BIOS, choose First Boot device as 'CD/DVD Drive" 3) Second Boot device as HDD 4) Insert the bootable Windows CD/DVD into your CD/DVD Drive and install Windows from it.

SHOW IN SYSTEM BIOS BUT NOT SHOW IN BOOTSEQUINCE.

If its not in the boot sequence then the bios doesnt consider it bootable, is this drive an operating system drive from another computer? It will only boot an operating system thats been installed on the computer you're trying to boot from.

Your Windows Xp bootable CD should have an option called "Format his file system using FAT32" while installing the OS. Use the option to format it. The only prob is that it creates only a single partiotion. After installing windows you can re-partition using a third party software such as Partition Magic(please note that it will not affect your windows installation as you can first re-size the windows drive to a lower capacity and then partition the un-allocated space.
