Printer doesn't turn on (it has power) - Office Equipment & Supplies

  • Anonymous Sep 06, 2008

My HP officejet 6210 printer doesn't want to turn on. I tried taking out the power supply and connecting it back to the printer. After that step it starts going through the self-test and after that shuts down. It doesn't even show any signs of lie when I press the power button. Anyone can help?

    Thanks

The ink system failure is a pain to troubleshoot. It could mean that the ink cartridges are not communicating with the print head, the print head is bad or the entire printer needs service.

Try resetting the printer to clear the error from memory:
First with the printer on, unplug the USB cable (if using one) from the printer (and the computer).. Then remove all of the ink cartridges from the printer (lift the scanner unit as if to change the ink). Wait for the printer to indicate "Insert ink cartridge). Then unplug the power cord from the back of the printer. (Note: do not turn off the printer just disconnect the power cord.) I also disconnect the power cord from the outlet and the power adapter (this resets the adapter). Wait 60 seconds or longer. Then reconnect the power cord to the printer, the adapter and then the outlet. Turn on the printer if it doesn't turn on on its own. Reinsert the ink cartridges and close the printer. Print a calibration page if prompted to do so. Finally reconnect the USB cable. Try printing again.

If the message repeats, the unit needs service. This printer doesn't allow the user to service the print head so the cost for servicing is variable. If the printer is under warranty, contact HP for service. Otherwise decide if it is worth the cost of service (expect a minimum charge of $50 just to determine the problem.)

I hope this helps.

Hp PSC1210 All-In-One not turning on

HP makes a couple of different power cords for the PSC 1210 and their other printers. First make sure you are using the correct power cord (Amperage and voltage). Unplug the power cord (from the wall and the printer and from a power module if you have one). Leave all of the sections unplugged for at least 15 seconds to reset the power module/printer.

Next connect the power cord to the wall outlet and to the power module if present and check if the LED (if present lights up). If it doesn't try another outlet. In either case, check what the outlet voltage/amperage is at the end of the power cord with a multimeter (before you plug it into the printer). If you have a power module, then check the Amperage (it will be a DC current out).

If you are not getting the correct voltage and amperage out or the LED doesn't light (with a known good outlet), try a different power cord/module.
You can order these from HP.

If you have the correct power at the cord, plug the power cord into the printer and attempt to turn it on. (Press and release the power button.) If the printer still doesn't come on, the unit needs service. Contact HP if the printer is under warranty. Decide if it is worth fixing if it is out of warranty.

I hope this helps.

(I've had to use the HP Repair/Replacement service after a unit was in a home that was hit by lightning. Due to printer availability, an HP gift card was provided to buy a new printer.)

Printer turned itself off and will not switch back on?

If unplugging the power cord for 10 seconds doesn't reset the printer to normal operation, and replacing the power cord doesn't help, you may have a failed power supply.
Power supplies are usually not very difficult for an experienced technician to repair, but most inkjet printers are made to be very difficult to service - the case is often held together with lots of hidden latches and catches. They snap together quickly and cheaply, but they are hard to disassemble. That's in part because the labor cost for repairs often approaches the price of a new printer, so the manufacturers would rather save a few pennies on screws and make you buy another printer. Your model may be an exception; the all-in-one units have a bit more value and may be worth repairing.
If the printer is still under warranty, by all means collect on it.

Doesn't print the whole page

Try to re-brick your printer. Pull out the power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds.

If that doesn't help, try the steps below:

1. Disconnect the printer from your computer.

2. Re-brick your printer. Pull out the power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds.

2. On your computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.

3. Delete the Lexmark print object.

4. Reboot your pc.

5. When your pc turns on, reconnect the printer.

6. Wait until your pc fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list, then try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

I cannot get my Lexmark 5600-6500 to turn on

Try to unplug the power adapter from the printer.
printmastert_60.jpg

Then unplug the power cord from the power outlet. Wait at least 10 seconds before re-plugging the power cord into the power outlet in the wall (bypass any power strip) and the power adapter into the printer. This will give enough time for the printer to reset itself. If printer won't automatically turn on, press the power button. If that doesn't help, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance.

My printer doesnt work it doenst switch on at all

If printer doesn't work and it doesn't switch on, I assumed that there is no power at all on the printer. Check the AC line voltage if it is correct.

Unplug the printer. Remove the LVPS/HVPS, and check the fuses for continuity.

• If open, then replace the LVPS/HVPS.
• If not open, then check the switch continuity across its conductors with the switch on.
Turn the switch off. Plug the AC line into the LVPS/HVPS, and switch unit on.

Please try reseat power cable. If this does not resolve the issue, you may need to replace the LVPS (Low voltage power supply) on your printer.

For further assistance, please contact Lexmark Technical Support
