Can I use my old (non- FL40) flash with my C2100??

Is it possible to use a general (non FL40) flash light with my UZI? I am still the owner of an old good flash light I used with my analog camera bit there is no correct connection for the cable on my new digital camera. Is it possible by using a special cable or connector?

Re: Can I use my old (non- FL40) flash with my C2100??

When you use a vivitar or sunpak with your UZI do you use the CB-04 cable and do the units disable the pre-flash - I'm not referring to the redeye setting. I want to use a couple of slave units but the preflash of the Oly C2100UZ makes it not synch with the flashes. Also does the CB-04 have a female connector at each end? What are the other cables available from Oly to use off camera flashes without a female connector? Some seem to have a pin type connector. I'm not so interested in lighting up the world as I am in defeating the pre-flash so I can use the slaves.

Of course there are some who claim that trigger voltage is unimportant. I tend to believe them ,as there is no documented evidence from anyone that their camera has been harmed by using non proprietary flashes. Some posters are using older flashes with success and no harmful results. Do you have the nerve to try it? if so let us know.

Best settings for portrait photos

Be sure auto focus is on; M/A on lens; AF on body (left of lens front side). Aim focus area on the closest eye. Use big opening on short tele lens, to get some isolation from background.
Idea: Use an (old) fixed focus lens 105 2.5 or 50 1.8.

Unable to get Vivitar 2800 on Canon XSI to work.

DANGER! Don't try it again!

That flash is an old fashioned thyrister flash intended for 35mm film cameras ONLY. The voltage which it passes through the foot contacts can fry digital camera circuitry.

It will not work with your camera, you must get a modern unit suited to digital cameras instead. If you're lucky, then your camera has been unharmed, but if not then you are looking at expensive and possibly uneconomical repairs which will not be covered by the warranty.

The 2800 is a great general purpose flash, but it's design pre-dated the widespread use of digital SLR's. Vivitar did release a digital-friendly version called the 2800D. You can use the 2800D on 35mm film cameras as well, but must not use the original 2800 on digital models.

Hopefully your camera is OK and you'll keep your flash well away from it..

How do you synchronize a non olympus flash unit to an olympus e 500

Install flash on hot shoe and use shutter speed on camera set to no faster than 1/125. Read the owners manul for flash AND camera. Be careful, some trigger voltages may be higher than what your cdamera can handle and may ruin internal flash usage, if not camera itself. better to use a Wein Safesynch hot shoe. This mounts ion hotshoe of camera and flash is attached to this.

Pictures still blurry

Instead of green auto mode set to P mode and chagne the flash setting to non auto.If flash is is in auto mode flash will not fire and picture will be blurry. So your flash must fire every time (and it must not be decided by camera's auto flash mode).
I am sure this will solve your settings.

My flash isnt working on my A835 camera and i have only had it for 6 months

Check the flash mode that your camera is set to. The flash modes are: Auto, Red-Eye Reduction, Forced Flash, No Flash, Slow Synchro, and Red-Eye plus Slow Synchro. You might have the flash mode set such that your camera detects that the lighting doesn't require the flash mode selected. You can try manually overriding the flash mode by pressing left on the circle function button next to the LCD view screen. If you are still unable to manually turn the flash on, try changing the shooting mode with the mode select dial on top of the camera, then if necessary repeat the flash override step mentioned above. Repeat until successful. There is also the possibility that the flash is malfunctioning, but that is less likely than a setting issue. Let me know how you make out.

My Olympus FE 360 is less than 6 months old and the flash just stopped working. is it possible that there is a ''simple'' reset or fix/test?

There is no reset or fix test. Just ensure that the battery is fully charged, and replace the battery. Replacing the batteries already reset the camera.
Ensure that you have selected Flash on the menu and shot a picture. If the flash does not start, then usually the small pcb that supplies power to the flash has a blown capacitor.
In that case call Olympus number listed on the owners manual. They will give you instructions to validate the warranty and get the camera repaired.

Regards.

HP Camera won't flash

HP wont get your money for another camera period- the have dropped cameras from their line up- in the UK any way.
The precise reason for the non function of the flash is not immediately fathomable - but it is likely non use ,the capacitor that triggers the flash in a full state and not having been discharged could have 'killed' it.
As with pretty well all low end digital camera s'repair' is not an option, only replace.
So off you go and buy a new one- if it is flash you need- but perhaps you can live without it.
So often you see folk using their camera swith the flash popping off when in fact non was needed.

Problems taking photos at night.

Did you use flash? Did you use tripod? Generally speaking night photos with non-DSLR digital camera, W55 is non-DSLR, will be blurry unless either flash is used or a tripod is used. The issue is the camera shutter is set for a long exposure in order to get enough light that it is impossible to hold the camera steady. The color problem you mentioned is most likely your white balance. Normal white balance is sunlight at night you white balance should be Auto, Incandescent or Neon

Flash not working

Assuming that you haven't put the camera into a mode in which flash is disabled, either the charging capacitor or flash bulb is defective. It will have to be serviced so the appropriate part can be replaced.

DSC-P72 using Flash

Hi, While I do not have a P72, I find this problem odd. Most flash cycle times are so rapid that your grandaughter could not possible close her eyes in that time period (the travel time for the flash to fire and be reflected from the child's face is far faster than a human blink). The problem may be in pre-flash and not the flash itself. So that redeye-reducing "feature" may be responsible for your problem. Does your camera have a redeye reduction mode on the flash?
