I suspect you may need to 'pair up' your phone by bluetooth first if you haven't already done so-then once they are paired the icon should appear on your unit. Instructions for pairing should be included. Hope this helps!

Garmin 1340T boot loop issue. The unit

Hi,

Unfortunately, there isn't an easy solution for the Nuvi owner as it requires a custom piece of firmware to flash the unit to make it at least boot. This problem is often caused during a failed firmware and/or map update.

It sounds like a file was corrupted. Sometimes it is better to connect the unit up to a PC, delete the old map and then proceed to install the new one. There are so many issues with memory space causing failed downloads and corrupted files.

If the map file is missing, the unit will boot-up OK, it will just say "Map data unavailable" but if the map file or associated map files are corrupted, it can cause the unit to crash. Your PC won't recognize the Nuvi because you have the reach the main screen before the data communication mode routines are accessed.

We've had some success in restoring some of these units by flashing a "fix" firmware in "pre-boot mode" that doesn't try to load the map or map associated files. This should then allow the unit to boot. Once the unit boots, Windows will recognize it and then you can copy a map over to it from the PC. Reboot the unit and then flash it with the standard firmware.

All of a sudden my Garmin Nuvi 850 won't say street names, just turn left or right

It may have switched voices. Some of the voices are basic and do not say the street names.
  • Press TOOLS (The spanner icon in the bottom right corner of the screen which shows WHERE TO and VIEW MAP)
  • Pres SETTINGS
  • Press LANGUAGE
  • Press VOICE and select an English speaking voice that ends with the letters TTS (TTS stands for text to speech)
If you don't have one on your satnav you can download them. Download and install, to your computer, the latest version of WEBUPDATER from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27
Connect your satnav to your computer and run the WEBUPDATER program
It will search for updates and you should install any it finds. Afterwards it will find optional updates including voices. Tick the ones you want and download them to your satnav. When you have disconnected your satnav from your computer you'll need to select a voice as described in the first paragraph above

CAN I TAKE PICTURE WITH THIS? bECAUSE IT HAS A CAMERA ICON

It doesn't take photos but the camera icon is to take screen shots (picture of your screen). It could be useful if you want to teach someone how to use the satnav or to send garmin a screen shot if there's something wrong with your satnav. When you take a screen shot it's stored in the screenshots folder of your satnav.

How can i find out if my new garmin is bluetooth accessible.

  • Press TOOLS (the spanner icon in the bottom right corner of the screen with WHERE TO and VIEW MAP)
  • Press SETTINGS (the spanner icon)
  • If there's a "Bluetooth" icon on the next screen then it is bluetooth accessible. If there's not then it's not.
You can get a list of garmin satnavs that are bluetooth accessible at www.garmin.com/bluetooth

How to restore garmin nuvi 550 memory to original. i accidently loaded a map to the gps memory and not the memory card. I tried a factory reset but some files are still there and the map does not work.

It's not possible to undo a map install. However you should be able to re-download the original map from the Garmin website. Go to www.garmin.com and log into myGarmin. Click on the myMaps t tab. There you will see the maps you have on your satnav. Under the one you want to install to the satnav click on "Details" which should be in blue writing. This will bring you to a page where you should be able to download it again.

When you have downloaded the first map download the second to your computer. When the website shows that it has found your satnav it will show it with a drop down arrow. Click the drop-down arrow and select download to computer.

After it's downloaded click the windows start button and you will find a garmin icon in your list of programs. Click on garmin and you'll see an icon called MAPINSTALL. Click on this.

When you try to install the map using mapinstall it will again try to install it to your satnav. When your satnav is detected it will again show it with a drop-down arrow. Click this and select your memory card. The map will then be installed to your memory card.

I don't know how to change the language from English to Arabic.

To change the text language:
  1. Touch Wrench icon on the screen with the Magnifying Glass and Map icon
  2. Touch the Gears icon
  3. Touch the down arrow
  4. Touch the second option from the top
  5. Touch the middle blue box on right
  6. Touch the up arrow until Arabic appears
  7. Touch Arabic
  8. Touch OK
  9. Touch Back
The device should be in selected text language.

To change the voice;
  1. Touch the Tool icon
  2. Touch Settings
  3. Touch Language
  4. Touch Voice
  5. Touch the Voice Language you would like to use
  6. Touch 'Ok'
  7. Touch and hold the Back button to return to the main "Where To" and "View Map" menu
At this time your device should speak in the language you have set in step 5.
If there's not an Arabic voice on your satnav for you to select connect the satnav to your computer. Download the latest version of webupdater from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27 and install it. It will check for updates to the software on your satnav and afterwards it will show you Voices available for download. Select an Arabic one by ticking it. Click next and it will be downloaded. When the download is finished go select the voice on your satnav as described in the previous paragraph.

I have lost the bluetooth

The Bluetooth symbol on the bottom left of the screen will not show up unless the unit is linked with a compatible phone and Bluetooth is turned on. When the phone is not connected or the Bluetooth is turned off, you will not see this icon. The same thing goes for the Traffic icon. If you do not have an active traffic receiver connected, the Traffic icon will not show up either.

Garmin NUVI 660 BlueTooth

I had the same problem, and this is how I fixed it. Now it's working fine.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International,

If you are currently running the most current version of bluetooth software, and you are still seeing issues where your compatible phone is still not connecting properly, please try the below procedure, which will reinstall the version of bluetooth you have downloaded in case there was any corruption during the transfer or installation of the bluetooth version.

1. Power the unit on

2. Touch View Map

3. Touch the ETA/Speed button in the bottom left hand corner.

4. press and hold your finger over the speedometer for 10-15 seconds until a new screen appears.

5. Touch next at the bottom of the screen until the top blue banner reads Bluetooth Status.

6. Touch UPDT P, then Touch yes.

7. At this point the unit should go to a page that says Updating Bluetooth Firmware, allow this to finish, once finished, press quit, then press and hold the back button. At this point, go back through and try to connect your Bluetooth device again.
