Question about Mitsubishi WS-65809 65" Rear Projection Television

Mits 55908 Convergence problem

I have a 6 year old 55" Mits Diamond RPTV (WS-55908)that has worked flawlessly since I bought it. However, a few weeks ago it started doing something that concerns me: about half the times that I turn it on, within about 30 seconds the converged picture breaks into 3 pictures; red, green and blue, more at the edges than in the center. Usually it will re-converge within a minute or less and be fine after that, but once I waited a couple of minutes and it didn't re-converge so I turned it off and then back on and it was ok. Is something in the convergence circuit starting to go that I can repair or have repaired at a reasonable price? Or is this something that I can/should live with long term? I'd hate to lose this trusted family member. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

John

    Thanks Big Irish. Seems like this is not an uncommon problem with RPTVs.

    I have the same problem, I fix it by banking the top of the cabinet a couple of times. From this I assume that there is nothing wrong with an IC unless it is loose, how can i find out which one it is?

Good Day, John;
It sounds like the Convergence IC's have poor solder connections, by re-soldering the convergence output IC's should solve your problem. The IC's are large and mounted to large silver "heat sink" with STK 392 # on them. Good Luck, big IRISH.

    Good Day, John;

    Yes it very common for PJTV's that use those type of devices. They normally fail within five years unless your TV has good air circulation. Good Luck on your repair, big IRISH.

The Color On My Mitsubishi Rear Projection Tv model- WS-55908 looks to be off, picture looks blue and Yellow.

its sounds like the convergence on your TV needs to be adjusted. (this adjusts all of the color guns in the back of the tv to line them up again, when they get off, you start to get yellow blue or red halos around objects in the picture. In the setup menu on your TV under picture or Display there will be an item that says "convergence" follow the instructions in there so all the crosses on the screen no longer have colored halos anymore.

My poor mitsubishi 55908 just lost it's picture after working flawlessly for 10 years. The sound is still there, but the screen just went dark. Is this something that is repairable? Thanks!

hi,
This is a high voltage problem, but first try turning up the screen voltage located on the focus block. This requires opening the back of the TV, be careful of dangerous high voltage. See if there's a picture after turning up the red, green, blue, voltage adjustments, if not then vertical sweep, Flyback, or convergence need servicing. This repair shouldn't cost more than $300.00 dollars, maybe less. Contact me at my link below so I can help you further. If this helps please rate :-)
Thanks..

TV is approx. 10 years old. Picture has started

This is a model first made in 2001--when it does it go into the customer menu and select CONVERGENCE--what you are looking for is is red or blue skewed and will not adjust?

If this is the case I can tell you what is needed based on the model number you provided.

If you have any questions let me know--I am here to help people.

Cannot adjust convergence on Mitsubishi RPTV

as long as there is no bowing in the picture and the color does not want to move then there is probably just a bad resistor on the convergence IC that controls the color alignment , thus the resistors would have to be tested to find the low valued resistor on the IC

You will need to contact a Mitsubishi Authorized repair facility. The entire electronics package must be removed and sent back in to Mitsubishi. The problem is the Formatter circuit board which is no longer available as a replacement part. The repair cost is very expensive and must be quoted by the facility you contact not me. Expect 4-6 weeks turnaround.

Mitsubishi WS-55908 Convergence Issue; need IC 7A00, Panasonic MN12857k MA2

Sorry, but when the coolant leaks down onto the small signal board, that board will never work right again. The fluid penetrates the board itself since the board is double sided and has many feed-throughs. The fluid gets under the surface mount parts and just eats through the copper traces, part leads and board itself. After trying many times to clean and restore those boards, not one has ever worked right again. The boards are NLA from Mitsubishi, so the set is done.
