What do you do if the built in microphone for the Toshiba Satellite M305D-S4840 is not working (not picking up sound)?

SKYPE MICROPHONE PROBLEM
If the person cannot hear you then, either your microphonedriver not installed or not working OR the microphone is not configured inSkype.
To test your microphone then click on Start - All Programs - Accessories -Entertainment - Sound recorder. Then record your voice and then play it back.If this is OK then the microphone need to be configured in Skype.
To configure the microphone - Open Skype - Tools - Options -Audio Settings for the Microphone THEN click on Save.

Sony vaio vgn-NR120E has no mic specially when u r on skype i can hear the caller but my voice is not heard by him...tell me the solutionWhat's your problem?

You're on a laptop and it's talking about a sound card?

If you can hear audio or the voice from the caller then you don't need a sound card.

Yes you can purchase an external mic and it just plugs into the mic port on your system. I think that might be why the caller can't hear you. All computers do not come with a built in microphone. And if you are skyping and using a web cam, all web cams don't have a built in microphone.

I cannot communicate with friends on skype because of microphone problem. when i talk the other person cannot hear my voice likewise me although we can see each other.

you must have used a usb mic or headset at some point and windows automatically set it as your default communications device I had the same problem, its easy to fix

go to control panel // hardware and sound // manage audio devices

here you will be able to change your mic and speaker settings, go to recording and these are your mic settings... right click on the mic thats embedded on your computer and set as default... you can check listen to device and talk into it as well to adjust your volume and to make sure you have the correct device

1. First try to check that if your mic is working fine or not. Try to use any voice recording software to record your voice, if it works then your nothing is wrong with your laptop.
2. If you are using any proxied connection, it is possible that your proxy is blocking it. it happens in college, universities.
3. Try to reinstall the OS and then reinstall all the drivers correctly and then install Skype.

Hi bob_durek assuming you have the same problem with MSN messenger or any other software, please go to start -control panel- Sound. Then click on the voice tab and Audio tab and see under Voice Recording you see a device, meaning your mic. If you do see a device, click on Volume and make sure the "Select" is checked. Restart Skype and run the audio wizard to make sure everything is working. Dont forget to rate if my answer helped you. Thank you :D

We have aspire 5920 laptop, if we are talking to others through net like skype viop the others cannot hear our voice. we are using head phone.

According to the specs for your model laptop, it appears that it does not have a built-in mic. Attach a mic to the mic port on the laptop, it will be next to the headphone port and configure Skype for your microphone settings.
