Yes thanks, all necessary cables are in place

  • Morri Aug 29, 2008

    I,m running XP

  • Morri Aug 30, 2008

Nothing happens in the "universal Serial Bus Controllers" section but when plugging the cable in,
"Other devices - USB device" appears in the column above. Likewise when unplugged the "Other devices" disappear

Unfortunately I've run out of time because I am going away now until the 25th Sept. I hope we can resume then.

I'm assuming you are speaking of the USB ports on the Monitor?

Do you have the USB cable running from the back of your computer to the back of your monitor? For those ports to work, you need a USB cable that runs from the computer to your monitor. This is a cable in addition to the power cable and the video cable. Verify you have three cables connected.

If you are not speaking about the USB ports on the monitor, please advise...

Update: There could possiby be FOUR cables connected if you also have sound in your monitor.

What version of Windows are you running? XP or Vista?

Sorry, I'm assuming you are running Windows.... :)

  • Stephen Aug 29, 2008

Ok, click on the Start Menu and go up to "My Computer" and "Right" mouse click on it. On the menu that pops up select "Manage". This will bring up the "Computer Management" Screen. From here, select "Device Manager" on the left column.

On the right window, click the plus "+" sign next to "Universal Serial Bus Controllers". This should list all your USB Ports and some devices.

At this point, make a mental note of what is there, and if you can, unplug the USB Cable from the back of the monitor to see if any of those items listed dissappear. There should be 1 or more USB Root Hubs that go away. If not, then the hub is not being detected by windows. Plug the cable back in and see if it is detected while you are watching that screen.

Let me know what you get...

Ok, that's helpful. Do they have an icon with them? Like a Question Mark or an Exclamation Mark?

  • Stephen Aug 30, 2008

The fact that they are in "Other Devices" might indicate the drivers are not installed, or did not install properly. What is the Make and Model number of your monitor?

  • Stephen Aug 30, 2008

Sorry, one more question. Is there anything currently plugged into any of the four monitor USB outlets?

  • Stephen Aug 31, 2008

That should be fine. Let me know when you get back. :)

My dell monitor usb ports don't work anyone how to fix it?

Please check if the monitor's usb port is connected to the tower, the monitor only acts like a USB hub / junction. If it is connected then disconnect it from the existing USB port and connect it to a different USB port. Please refer to the monitor manual link given below

Thank you for contacting Fixya.

Cannot connect to internet thru ethernet jack on computer

It could be. Check your Device Manager and make sure the device isn't disabled. Also each adapter has its own TCP/IP settings so make sure yours on your ethernet adapter are set the same as your USB adapter that is working. If it does turn out to be bad you can always add a new ethernet card for cheap.

Dell 1907fp USB port not working

The big question is do you have the USB uplink cabled from the monitor, connected to a USB port on the system?

Item #5 needs to be connected to your system's USB port via a USB cable. The ports on the monitor are just a USB hub.

Monitor usb

There should be a USB cable from one of the usb ports on your computer to a small square (upstream) USB port on the back of your monitor. This will activate the four (downstream) usb ports on your monitor.
Good luck...and I hope this is helpful!!
