I have a 1g mini

i have a 1g mini sandisk, i've tried using the adapter that comes with it and inserting it into my hp laptop, but why does it ask me to format it. I'm currently using it in my 8125 Pocket PC and I'm able to save and view all of my files on the mini sandisk, but not in the laptop using the adapter or even the mobilemate SD .
Please help.
