Question about Frigidaire ATF6000ES Front Load Washer

1 Answer

Washer timer switch has become more resistant to progressing

At first washer would work one time then not the next. Timer would stop at diverse points. Now timer switch will not progress. I can now fill with water and pump it out, if I manually forward timer switch. Prior to this machine would tumble and spin, now no tumble or spin

Friend,
ngfam1 At your service!

The only way to find out and to repair this is,
First unplug the washer and wait a few minutes then restart it like rebooting your computer when its acting strange!
If it corrects the problem GREAT!!!

If not only a trained laundry tech can make the electronic diagnoses. And I am not there for hands on work!

Like we used to be able to fix my own cars, but not today they need diagnostic equipment!
Below I referred you to a great service nation wide!

If none of these tasks remedy this problem then here is a good company that's found nation wide.
A&E Factory Service
A&E has schedulers available to take appointments 24/7
And they do warranty work too, for most manufactures!

If it a traditional washer with standard controls and a mechanical switch AND it is not a savant to the microchip world!

If I was there with a hands on diagnoses. I would have corrected the problem as the first thing!

Below I referred you to a great service nation wide!

The washing machine timer can be considered the brain that controls the washing machine's systems. Although timers are ruggedly constructed, they contain a variety of tiny parts, like springs and movable contacts, that can develop problems that keep the machine from operating properly. The movable contacts can become burned and fuse together or they can become stuck in the open position, thus disrupting the wash cycles. The timer's motor can also become defective, thus preventing the timer from advancing through its cycles.

a defective timer motor, the motor's control contacts stuck in the open position or defective drive gears. Unplug the timer's wiring harness, then, with the timer set to any position other than off, check for continuity through the motor contacts. Continuity will be indicated by a "0.000" on the meter's display. A pictorial diagram on the back of the machine will tell you which numbers on the timer socket corresponds to which set of contacts in the timer. Likewise, a functional timer motor will display a resistance reading greater than 0.000, but less than 5 ohms. Open contacts or a defective motor winding will be indicated by an "O.L." on the meter's display.
IF A defective timer will only work in some cycles and not others. Then check for a broken wire in the wiring harness, check for continuity through those contacts using your meter. Wires in the wiring harness can break, but it's not a common occurrence unless they get pinched during the assembly of the machine.

If the same part of each cycle setting, such as the spin cycle does not operate properly, the problem probably is not the timer but some other component such as the transmission shifting mechanism. If the problem occurs when using only one cycle setting, the problem is a bad timer.

Machine fills up with water, goes through the agitate cycle then stops and wont go into next cycle

Your Lid latch switch is most likely broken, you will need to replace it, you can not bi pass this switch. you can order it from your closest appliance distributor.
Unplug or turn off breaker to washer.
Replace by removing front panel, should be 2 screws at the bottom of washer.
Slide and depress lid latch down to release.
unhook wires and reinstall the same.

The washing cycle does no proceed automatically however it does so when the dial is manually advanced. What could be the problem and how to sort it?

Sounds like the drive inside the timer switch. There is a timer motor that causes the timer switch to progress through the stages. When you manually progress the timer, it is physically turned to the next position and the switches all work as designed; it's just that the motor is incapable of doing that job for you as it should.
You need a new timer.

TIMER PROBLEMS

Inside the timer there are a set of contacts which supply the timer with the voltage to run it, plus all the other loads

Over a period of time the contacts get weak with the heat that is built up in them while the washer is running (Especially if you run high temperature washes and the heater is on a lot)

The contacts then burn on the two surfaces that meet and it become pitted.

Repeatedly switching on and off causes the two surfaces to meet occasionally and you will get a circuit

No way out other than a new timer.

The selector for the spin cycle intermittently does not work

Yes. It is a timer. A lot of time though, the washer stop because the lid control switch is open. I means the washer has a sensor to stop when the lid is open or when the spin go widely unbalanced. Sometimes this sensor is too sensitive to vibration and stop the machine. The switch is in the back just behind the timer.

POWERUP, YOUR WASHER COULD BE THE LID SWITCH OR THE COLD WATER VALVE. AT THE END OF THE WASH CYCLE, THE MOTOR WILL SPIN OUT THE WATER, BUT ONLY IF THE LID SWITCH IS ACTUATED. IF THE SWITCH IS BAD, IT WILL NOT SPIN OUT THE WATER AND THE TIMER WILL NOT ADVANCE FROM THAT POINT.
IF THE WASHER SPINS, THE NEXT STEP IS TO FILL WITH WATER FOR THE RINSE CYCLE. MOST WASHERS USE COLD WATER FOR RINSES. IF THE COLD WATER VALVE IS RESTRICTED OR FAULTY, THE WASHER WON'T FILL. IF THE WASHER WON'T FILL, THE WATER LEVEL SWITCH WON'T ACTIVATE AND THE TIMER WON'T ADVANCE TO THE NEXT STEP.

Stacked Matag washer & Dryer (Dryer on top)

Opening door while spining should stop the machine. Since no water comes in, the agitate stage will not work even when the timer will be on this spot. Check first the filters on the inlet water line (both sides). Then, if problem still exist - check that the inlet water valve works(it is an electromagnet valve, located at the pipe's entrance to the machine)). If it doesn't work, test that it get power. In case it get power and doesn't work - You can easily open the valve and clean it (from scale or other dirt). Be aware you should disconnect the power cable from machine before doing it !!!! Check as well for valve's coil resistance. In case you have no resistance measurement - you should replace it for a new one. Good luck !
