You will find the @ key is the" key instead because you have the keyboard set at US, go to control panel>regional and language options and change to english.

Trying to do a restore of a system image using file history WIN 10. Every time I try this or a system reset, a screen appears which asks me to choose my keyboard layout. How do I select a choice?

in the settings or properties of the keyboard you will find a list of keyboard lay outs
one is british(english) which puts the letters in different positions to an American ( english ) keyboard
If I remember rightly , the list includes keyboards in different languages
select the one suitable for your language ( be careful between the british and american layouts ( both known as qwerty boards) as certain keys and key functions will be different
select what you want, apply and ok

I have a desktop with an amer megatrend bios.I want to get a new bios that works with win 8.1 and needs to have support for PAE,NX.and SSE2

It's best to simply replace the entire Mother Board than try to replace the BIOS. Replacing a Mother Board vs replacing a BIOS is way easier.

Your current BIOS MIGHT work if you can find a flash file for it, but you have to be careful. If the BIOS your flashing isn't in production it's usually only PATCH flash file, to fix a problem with a BIOS, not upgrade it. And if you use the wrong flash file, it will TRASH your BIOS!

The BIOS, which is a chip, is usually micro-soldered to the Mother Board with high precision, by a robotic arm, and not easily removed or duplicated. The exception is if you happen to have a BIOS chip, that can be replaced, in a socket, but this is unusual instead of common.

The best source for BIOS info such as you are looking for is the American Megatrends Website itself at: AMI American Megatrends Inc Aptio (compatible with Windows 8) however their website is for the Mother Board manufacturer so you can't buy the BIOS as a consumer, but through a reseller, AMI Office, Authorized Representatives, etc (AMI American Megatrends Inc How to Buy).

You can however, buy a replacement Mother Board with a BIOS already installed on it (that's the way you usually buy them - with the BIOS pre-installed on the Mother Board) that's PAE, NX, and SSE2 and whatever else you want compatible. A great website to find computer parts and kits, new, refurbished, out of box, etc is the Tiger Direct Website at: TigerDirect com Electronics Tablets Phones Office Supplies Video Games. Just search for BIOS to find your specs, then check the bottom for possible best Mother Board kits to replace the one you have now. Hope this helps. :-)

Could you please explain to me in a simple way? the fan in the cpu is not working. i change the mother board and memory a month ago.do i have to reconnect again the mouse ,key board and monitor ? or i

Do you actually mean the fan on the heatsink (attached to the Motherboard?) If that's not going it will probably overheat which isn't good for it.

XPS M1210 Laptop turn on but no display

Mke sure your displ;ay is selected, hold down the Fn key and press the F8 key.
Connect a know working monitor to the laptop, again hold down the Fn key while pressing the F8.
If the external monitor works then your display is defective, if not then the onboard video is defective and you will need to replace the mother board.
I hope thisd helps.
Good luck and have a pleasent day.

The screen on my hp laptop is black ... the computer seems fine because I plugged in the screen from my pc and everything is working fine ... what can I do to get my laptop screen to turn on!??!

It is quite possible that the link of the LCD has broken up maybe on the hinge side. So it will be important to have the laptop taken apart to check the continutiy of the flexible membrane strip fromt he mother board to the display section.
If there is no break then the possibility of the display drivers being faulty is high which might require help from a reputed service centre.

Is it possible to boot from a PCI SATAlink controller to a 1 TB HD. My device manager see the hard ware, but I get a message that the controller isn't initialized and needs device drivers. The drivers have...

Try looking at your BIOS settings. In there, under BOOT OPTIONS, you should see one that allows you to boot from a USB external drive.
You get to the BIOS settings in different ways, depending on the manufacturer of your desktop, but it's usually through one of several keys: DEL, F2, F10, etc. Also, if you do not see the POST messages showing you what key to press in order to see the BIOS settings, press the ESC key as soon as you power on the PC and you may then see them.
Give that a try and good luck!
