Question about Audiovox Xpress Satellite Radio Receiver with Vehicle Kit

3 Answers

FM output We have picked up our second XPress in a week, thinking the first one was defective, but it's something goofy. The FM signal output seems very weak. If you put your finger on the back of the XPress unit (the lower right side, where the serial sticker is), the output is great. Move your finger off it, and there's nothing. We've tried all the FM open frequencies in our area, but this happens on every one of them. Did we miss something in setup? Or did we get two defective Xpresses in a row. There is, BTW, a three-bar indicator on the satellite signal. And it's clear. Hi, I have the same problem - the XM signal is strong but the sound through the FM radio (in the car) has a lot of static - it doesn't matter what FM station we try. My other car which has a RoadyXT in it does NOT have these problems.

Hi,
The problem could be bad earthing as told by my fellow technicians.
You can put an additional signal bosster antenna. As when you put you finger it amplifies the radio signal. If you have amplifier installed for your speakers . Try switching off the amp and try connectiing the speakers directly.
Following is the Link for the antennas

Its due to the bad earthing or signal problems

when u put a finger in the back of the unit it works fine beacuse it gets a good earthing from u resulting in making it able to catch the frequency strongly.that means u work as a antenna and earthing for ur unit which is causing a problem when u remove ur hand out.get ur antenna checked and some proper earthing for ue device. it will work properly for sure, nothing to worry about.thanks.

    pls do rate the solution

    thanks.

The low signal may be due to loose connection of the antenna cable

The antenna connector plugs into the rear of the
radio (the lower corner on the passenger side). The combination
radio/8-track players have their antenna jack in the rear center. Check
the condition of both the connector and coaxial cable, as both provide
the antenna connection and a shield against electrical interference. They both need to be in good shape.

SureConnect problem?

The problem is most likely the ground connection of the antenna to the vehicle chasis.

If the body is metal (and not a composite material) the base of the antenna should be grounded to the vehicle through the mount. Usually, the antenna base has "teeth" on it to make a good ground connection to the body. If this mount is not tight or there is paint or rust preventing a good electrical connection, you'll get weak reception.

Reciever powers up and recieves signal (station and song titles are displayed) but doesn't transmit to car radio either through the assigned fm station or the aux cord.

IF you have a cord plugged into the audio jack, if will TURN OFF your FM transmitter. You have to leave it unplugged for the FM transmitter to work. Go to MENU and make sure your FM station is set and that the FM OUTput signal is turned up. Write back if you need more help.

How do i install the xm receiver?

Yes, the unit should have a FM mode where you can use it to transmit the signal over your FM stereo. The unit should come with a FM transmitter and it should be in the instructions on how to install it. All you have to do then is make the unit play on the same station your radio is on.

FM output

I had the same problem. Only thing that I came up with that was consistant is plugging it into the aux jack on my radio so you don't have to depend on FM frequency. But, my unit crapped out this week and I hope it is under warranty.
