Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I have a 8 Quart Roaster Oven that does not heat. I took it apart and found that the wire that runs inside a bunch of snall porcelain caps staked on one another was burnt in half.

Hello
Before you buy a new condensor fan motor check the contacts to the motor are not worn or pitted.

Hold or push the contactor in by using an insulated screwdriver and see if the fan motor turns.

Also the start cap you bought? was it the correct one meaning mfd micrfarad?

If all the above checks out ok then you need a fan motor, you can wire the motor direct to check it also.

From what you describe it sounds like the fan motor is burnt up and worn out,not uncommon.

I have a goodman phkjo48-1 heat pump about 5 yrs old. suddenly no matter heat or air turned on only the fan would come on regardles, the main motor outside would not run. I took off the motor to have it...

Yes Jay, this is what happened. Hopefully you didn't burn out the condenser fan motor you just had tested.Brown normally connects to the capacitor, as this is what starts and keeps the motor running. Hopefully, it just got hot and overloaded to trip the breaker. You say there are 3 wires coming out of a junction box, but you don't remember how they go. @ are hot wires as this motor is 220 volts. Not being onsite with you, and the wires are now faded from the sun, you will need to find out where they connect, ( the 3 coming out of box ) to see which 2 go to most likely they contactor you replaced. They will connect 1 to the load side and the other to the load side but opposite each other. The load side is the side of the contactor that the main 2 hot wires dono't connect to. This is the line side in.If you are sure you wire the contactor right, then it has to be the motor. If you follow the brown wire back, it should go to the run capacitor. Re-check your connections on the motor, even if you have to look at the schematic, which will show you where they connect, and the colors. It should be real easy for you Jay. Get back to me and keep me posted. The new motors have 2 brn wires that go to the capacitor and 2 to 3 going to the load side of the contactor.

I have replace the second capacitor and now the condenser fan motor has burned up it was smoking and humming need help. The capacitor rating is correct on the capacitor and condenser fan motor.

Hi, if the condenser fan motor was smoking, its no good now. The motor was bad before you put the new run cap on, and when you hit the power it finished it off. You will need to replace the motor. If you are going to take this on your self, you can probably get a motor where you got the new run capacitor. Just draw you a diagram on the wiring so you don't forget how they go. Its either that, or have it done for you. This is a common motor that goes out due the the work it does removing heat and working in the heat all day. This is all that you can do, is replace it. The motor is what took out the other capacitor as it was weak and going out. The new cap just helped it along. Call around to get an estimate for a total price, not by the hour!! They will stick it to you if not.

Your control board may have a problem. When the burner fires up, after a time delay of about 45 seconds, you need to use a voltmeter and see if the terminal marked H for heat has 120 volts coming off it. This voltage will be the power to spin the blower. If ther is 120 vac at terminal H then the blower motor or cap. is no good. If there is no 120 vac then you may have a bad control board.

Weather king inside electric unit

He shorted the Transformer and lost all the 24v low voltage controls. This could have possibly been a loose wire in the T-stat or even a defective T-stat. It could have even been a reversing valve in some cases. Unit would only run auxillary heat bank in on position.

Here are a couple things to check first make sure that the filter inside is clean if not replace. 2nd the outside coil needs to be cleaned at least once a year to ensure effeciency. These two things will make a dramatic improvement in operating costs and capability of the unit.

Dayton Motor and capacitors for Carrier AC Unit (model # 38ck030300)

The 2 brown wires to the cap in first legend is how they are wired electrically, inside that motor the run winding is common to that brown one they cappped off in the 2nd option, but the powers still going to Run.ommon and run get the juice either way, its just another way to do it, but electrically as to sides of power and where they go is no different, just different way to do it.you can run power in on the Run terminal on the run cap, the run winding and run cap and start cap if equipped are Run to Run to Run.So the hot leg for the run winding also goes to run on the caps, run to run to run.,run winding to run cap to run on start cap.

Wiring Diagram for Ruud Heat Pump

Unfortunately, the wiring diagrams for heat pumps are not so easy to come up with. The outdoor unit will have its own diagram, but may not include the indoor air handler and will probably not include the thermostat. That said, the orange wire is commonly run from the thermostat to the reversing valve in the outdoor unit. This wire is usually not connected to the indoor airhandler. The orange wire is usually used in a unit that has the reversing valve energized in cool. Ruud, however has its reversing valve energized in heat. Probably not useful but maybe helpful
